NEW ORLEANS- The Coast Guard says it airlifted a man with heart disease from a sailboat in the stormy Gulf of Mexico to shore in Louisiana.

The Coast Guard said officials were called early Thursday about a husband and wife aboard a 64-foot sailboat bound for Houston from Cozumel, Mexico.

The man had a history of heart disease. The woman said he was slumped over and unresponsive. A Coast Guard helicopter from Mobile, Ala., hoisted the couple from the sailboat and took them to a Coast Guard station near New Orleans, where the man was reported in stable condition. He was taken to a medical clinic.

Petty Officer Bill Colclough said the sailboat was left adrift and that the unidentified owner would work with an insurance company on salvage plans.

Think we could get some coordinates and do our own salvage operation???

am I right in saying that abandoned boats fair game and finders keepers?

a 65' sailboat capable of making it all the way across the gulf has to be worth some $$$$

Bring your Yeti's this may be a long trip

Has something to do with salvage laws. Don't think you get it for free. But can settle with the insurance.

I may be way off.

Now's our chance to officially start the OB Pirate crew. Think we can make it to the Prop Stop?

Never sailed one that big before but yeah. I could sail it with a couple of crew. Sailboats is sailboats.

Yep, I crewed on a J 30 in college. I could work the foredeck no problem on that thing.

We'd need a galley wench. Maybe Spicy is free this weekend.

It occurs to me that if an old dude with a heart condition and his old lady can sail that boat out into the gulf, then everything is electric winches and furling. So we could actually make this crew nothing but a mess of Stacy's and we could still sail that boat anywhere on the planet. Just need one that is really good at fishing off the back of a boat while naked to keep us fed.

Isn't salvage 1/3 the value of the boat?

With the right female crew who wants to salvage, let's keep.
