Can anyone give me a rough estimate of what the take home pay in EBR is for a teacher?

I know they make roughly 43k before taxes/retirement/benefits/etc.

So what does the number work out to per-month after all that?

depends on if they elect to receive a paycheck during the months they work, or if they elect to receive a check year round...

I think EBRPSS v Zachary/Central will be different. I think teachers start at 45k+ in Zachary and like 40k for EBRPSS. Not sure about central.

I know a physics teacher that was at Tara high, and she made WAY MORE than 45K, and she's my age (34)...and this was 2-3 years ago.

Comments like that really degrade what message boards are about. Its about sharing knowledge with real humans... not looking at a model built by a computer that can find a round about number for you that may or may not be accurate. I mean really dude get off your fricking i know everything because i use google shtick.

And yes i clicked on that link you gave me... its really good.. but it only gets me about 30% answer i am looking for... it tells me taxes... but hey how about that "Voluntary Deduction Section" what goes in there... oh wait.. thats stuff that you ha ve to know.. you know like what % they will charge you for benefits and retirement... hence why i came here.. to find out what those numbers are.

and also OP... I did google it... and i use google for about every question or problem i have... and you know where i end up 95% of the time??? A message board... because they have value information from real people who care to talk about the subject matter... If everyone was a dick, like you, and just said "is it difficult to navigate google" all of that info that we run across when we google something would be gone.... so then your little google shtick would be dead... christ some people are worthless counts.

I'm not a teacher in EBR, but I am in another parish with almost identical pay. Of course taxes are based on the number dependents, etc., but my take-home is around $2,900. I'm married with 2 kids. After insurance, union dues, and personal retirement (which are all optional) my paycheck is $2,400 per month. Great benefits, terrible pay, you'll be working in the summer to live. Some parishes include a nice bonus on top of your regular salary. Mine was $5,000 this year. If little Bobby has it his way there won't be any public schools...

This is what I was looking for when I started the post someone with real insight because they are personally involved with this situation... hell this post might even show up on google one day.

do you feel that the retirement program is worth paying into? I know a lot has changed with that over the last few months... but i don't know specifics.

Also is your insurance for your entire family or do you elect just to have the plan for you while your SO/kids are on another plan.

This is fine. The job is for my SO. I am self employed so insurance is a killer on me..

Do you feel better now?

Voluntary deductions are exactly that. You'll have a range that you can choose to contribute or not to contribute at all.

BTW, the dick thing goes both ways and you filled your end of the role quite well.

Peace.

You pay into a pension instead of social security as a teacher... That runs me about $400 per month. I don't put much into my personal retirement (through the school) because it's not worth it at all. I only contribute to it because it got me a discount on my life insurance and car insurance (I bundled). The health insurance is awesome though. For myself, my kids, and my wife, I pay a little over $400 per month and it's great insurance. That same policy would cost me $1,200 per month if I took it out independently. If I had excluded my wife, it would have only been $140 per month (for me and my kids). Outside of work, I fund my ROTH with a portion of my paycheck, and max it out with the money I make in the summer. I love teaching (I only work 190 days per year, get 15 sick days, and get paid even when I'm not working). No, the money isn't great, but the perks, plus the reward of having a meaningful career) make it worthwhile. Good luck to you and your wife!

You're right VA I was a dick and I apologize for that. It's just frustrating to me when I am looking for quality banter about a subject and people give essentially worthless responses while trying to make the OP look ignorant... Hell i am more pro google than anyone out there.. I'm typing from a chromebook as we speak... but sometimes it can't answer questions while providing insight to the subject.

Now back to the subject matter. Yes, they are "voluntary" but for the most part they have the same type of structure with what it will cost.. what they match.. etc... Especially when it comes to the case of insurance... They have a huge group policy which is similar for everyone.. At least I would guess.
