Outgoing GOP Rep: We Have Enough Votes to Unseat Boehner

Outgoing Louisiana Republican Rep. Jeff Landry told Breitbart News there are at least 17 GOP members who plan to unseat House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday, and Boehner may resign on Wednesday evening during or after a GOP caucus meeting.

Landry, who lost his bid for re-election in a member-member race to leadership-sponsored Rep. Charles Boustany, told Breitbart News that “if they don’t got 20, they’re so close to 20 – they’re close.”

Landry said another member organizing the effort told him they’ve got at least 17 – which is the bare minimum needed to unseat Boehner. “They’re somewhere between 17 and 20,” Landry said in a phone interview. “I think they’re trying to get to 25.”

Landry added that that another member told him “there’s a pretty good chance Boehner will resign at the conference tonight.”

Ron Meyer from American Majority Action made a similar claim. “I have confirmed with a group of Congressmen that Speaker Boehner will not be elected Speaker tomorrow,” Meyer said in an email to reporters. “He will either resign or be forced out tomorrow.”
___
** UPDATE -- Boehner is now making concessions in what AMA’s Meyer says is an attempt “to try to save face.” The Hill reports he told Republicans he won’t negotiate one-on-one with President Barack Obama anymore.

Pretty bold for an "Outgoing Louisiana Republican Rep" to make statements like that. He's not in the game anymore.

I just saw an article at thehill and it does not sound like Boehner or Pelosi are going anywhere.

Joehn Bohener is staying where he is. The rank and file know that a fight would just end up splintering the party even further.

I consider myself part of the TP. But I also think Bohener did the best he could with a crummy hand.

Take a page out of the Dem handbook. Keep chipping away, and think in the long term.

The real discussion is, is Obama counting all of his chickens before they're hatched by assuming his do nothing ,blame republicans plan works? Will it backfire on Obama and the dems in the 2014 elections?

Below is an article written shortly before the fiscal cliff drama...

quote:

A new Gallup Poll out this morning indicates that Americans, who reelected Obama last month, are finally beginning to see through his political fiscal strategy. Fully 48% of Americans are now doubtful an agreement will be reached, up eight points in the last seven days.

And today, only 50% of Americans still believe an agreement will come, down seven points in the last seven days.

Here's why wise Americans are coming to believe an agreement before the deadline is problematic at best: Previous polls have shown that a majority of the country would not blame the crisis on the Democrat-controlled Senate, which hasn't bothered to pass a federal budget in more than three years.
Nor would it blame the Democrat in the White House, who's so full of his election success that he hasn't made any realistic bargaining offers while out campaigning and, most recently, vacationing in Hawaii.

But they would blame Republicans, who only control the House, more for the tax hikes and defense cuts despite the numerous compromise offers Speaker John Boehner has made, against the wishes of many in his GOP caucus.

So, let's see, by driving the country off the cliff, Obama could gain more tax money to spend, cut defense costs as he wants anyway, stick Republicans with blame for the apparent crisis and, quite possibly, ignite infighting among Republicans split over compromising or holding the line on spending.

What a terrible "price" for Obama to pay! As Br'er Rabbit used to say, 'Please don't throw me in that briar patch over there.'

On the other hand, the newly-reelected Obama could cave on things like his massive new stimulus spending plan and give up all the political perqs of yet another manufactured Obama era crisis, just as candidate recruiting begins for the 2014 midterm elections.

Hmm, which path do you think the Chicago machine pol will pick?

Here's how you can tell Obama doesn't really care about reaching an agreement: Republicans offered a package to produce the desired additional government revenues by closing loopholes and capping deductions. Obama rejected that, insisting that while he wanted loopholes closed, he really wanted tax rates to increase. And then he upped the amount of money he wants.

Were the republicans duped or is there still the silent majority that shocked the Obama machine when the dems lost majority? Has the media succeeded in demonizing the tea party? Some judge this answer simply on Obama's success of re-election. But...if Obama bused in voters and dead people for the win, he truly does not have a mandate as the above IBD poll reported.

Good riddens!
It is apparent Rep Landry "don't got" any higher thinking capacity. Purge the dolts!

Hopefully Ron Meyer will suffer a similar fate.

I guess Obama has said he will raise the debt ceiling no negotiating. So Boehner is BSing now that his gavel is at stake.

Boehner needs to go just like the weiner did.

Well you actually have to chip something in that scenario.

Name one thing the Rs got in negotiations. One.

Well, I agree, they got just about nothing.

But the point is to hold on, live to fight another day. I think Obama has used up all or most of his capital on this fiscal cliff.

He's trying to get the Repubs to self destruct. Like I said, Bohener had a weak hand. Only 1/3 of the pertinent parties involved in the process. Also a press willing to push the meme that the fiscal cliff failure would be the fault of the GOP.

Hang in there, just like the Dems did through Reagan and W, and then when it really hits the fan, be the ones to come in and pick up the pieces.

.

In thehill link I posted above it speaks about Pelosi's position. Even though Obama wants the GOP to divide and conquer. Boehner being replaced may just work and not backfire. Who knows?

The idiot dems and pubs will carry on with Pelosi and Boehner to continue the BS Obama loves.

Obama did not want to continue to have the estate tax exemption level at $5 million. The final bill kept that amount before estate taxes kick in.

I wouldn't mind seeing Boehner go. He's not a great negotiator.

If he does go, I'll be pissed if it's Cantor though
