| College dominoes falling after Black Monday (not including Saban) (Posted on 12/31/12 at 1:52 pm)
Where are the next dominoes set to fall in the wake of the pro openings? Chip Kelly going somewhere in the NFL, to be succeeded by his OC seems almost certain the way folks have been talking lately. Scott Pioli has kept his job as of right now, and wants Kirk Ferentz in KC. Likely successor would be Bob Diaco at ND. Bill OBrien's name is coming up regularly. David Shaw is an outside shot after just signing a contract extention. But he's a pro guy in the long term. Lane Kiffen could possible fail upward again and be in San Diego next year. That's been mentioned in at least one place I've read.

Man, I need his agent. That guy has sucked at three different places and keeps getting paid a ton.

Kelly and O'Brien should both get shots.

Looks like he's in hiding right now.

Agreed. He reminds me of Neuheisel. Guy drove CU from national contender to mediocrity with NCAA issues, so Washington hired him and he did the same there, so UCLA hired him . . . Kiffen may even be worse than Neuheisel. The trojans are sure getting smoked by GT.

O'Brien seems like a great choice for anybody. And I assume C Kelly would tweak his offense at least a little to adjust to the NFL.

If San Diego hires this clown, they deserve to fail. Norv Turner sucks but it would have been better to keep him than bring in Lame Kitten. What has this guy done that makes people think he can coach? Tell me what I'm missing. His signature "win" is almost beating Bama in 2009.

Shaw is going nowhere. Link Ferentz has the best buyout in college football. I can ot see him leaving that security. LINK The GM that hires good ol Lane should be fired on the spot.

I realize it's business and I rarely ever fault a coach for leaving or a player for leaving early, but it would be pretty disappointing to see O Brien leave after one year after (pretty successfully) preaching to all those Penn State players to buy in and stay. I'd feel like shite for all those kids who had to deal with the Sandusky/Paterno shit, then bought into what O Brien was saying and stuck with Penn State, only to have him leave on them. Can't fault NFL teams for wanting him though and it would be interesting to see if Penn State would have more success with some of the guys they missed on for the opening last year after having a year for all the bad pub around the school to settle down.

I would bet Iowa would gladly void the buyout for him if he wanted to try the NFL. They'd be happy to be rid of him.

Not the buyout he has to pay. The one they have to pay. His contract is through 2020. It will cost them a ton to fire him. His security is the best in the biz.

No, I get it. I'm saying they won't fire him bc of the buyout, but they'd LOVE for him to go to the NFL and thus waive the buyout that HE would have to pay for leaving. The guy is a good football coach but he never has recruited talent to win at Iowa consistently. Wouldn't be a problem in the NFL.

I agree. I just think he has his retirement contract and is done.
