| We would have gone to the playoffs for the 4th straight season... (Posted on 12/29/12 at 3:34 pm)
if Payton would have been here this season. Let's break that sentence down into two parts. 1.) HOLY SHIT! The Saints had a chance to make the playoffs for 4 straight years - after winning a Super Bowl title in 2009. Man, it's great to be a Saints fan. 2.) Roger Goodell cost us a chance to make the playoffs for a 4th straight season - which would obviously have been a first for the Saints organization. What a pompous, quick-trigged prick. Anyway...carry on. I love you guys.

Absolutely. Also, if the replacement refs weren't around for the Skins and Chiefs games I believe we win those.. Massive PI call that should have never been took a 4th down to a 1st and goal.. those refs called everything PI. Also in the 4 game losing stretch early on, all those games were within a possession.

Would Payton have magically fixed your defense?

You're a hater, but you speak the truth. Payton's awesome and its great to have him back. But he was on the sideline for our defensive meltdowns in the playoffs the last two years.

the team was lacking accountability early on. especially defensively. even the little things that make a difference. payton is a brilliant PC and finds ways to win those shootouts when the D is playing poorly. again tho, enjoy it while you can. the failcons in their best year can't even have a better NFC south record than the Saints in one of their worst. can't even do better than a split h2h either.

Who here are east coast Who Dats? Who's closest to MetLife Stadium? I'm looking to pal up for the Saints return.

I guess when you miss the playoffs you have to look really hard for a silver lining

Payton would've had a more balanced attack on offense keeping the defense off the field. There were several times, especially earlier in the season where the offense became incredibly predictable and drives were stalled. This is the area Payton was missed most. A big problem with the 0-4 start was also the major shake up; Not having Vitt there to run the team caused 2 major problems A) It left Kromer at head coach where he couldn't focus on the o-line at all. And in the first 6 games, the offensive line stuggled very much. B) There wasn't a rah rah type of guy leading the team and jumping on their arse to give a sense of urgency. I believe that with Vitt here all season this is probably a 10 win season, with Payton it would've been 10-12 wins. I think the Falcons still would've won the division, but the sense of continuity and leaderships would've had this team in the playoffs. Everything that made this team what it is was knocked out of whack, and there's no denying that. There's too much talent on the team to not get in,

we were up 24-6 on the cheifs close to the end of third. The offense could not move the ball at all in the second half. we lost 27-24. We do not lose that game if Payton is their. Right their is making us 8-7 and still in playoff contention i believe.

Let's play the blame game again next year.

I also believe this. The officiating in the first couple of games was atrocious. The saints should have gotten more than a couple calls early on and the replacements just weren't catching them. Oh well. Always next year

nice troll attempt but I will answer anyway. I think if Payton would've been here our offense would've run more efficiently, hence less putting the defense on the field over and over and reducing their exposure. We lost quite a few games this year due to offensive breakdowns. Sure we have nice stats but played pretty average on offense in a lot of key situations especially early in the year. A lot like 08.

Exactly. There were points where the offense just stalled during those early games.
