All Clad Fry Pan or French Skillet...

The wife got me a gift certificate and I'm planning on picking up an All Clad pan.
The question for the foodies, which is better... the stainless fry pan or the stainless french skillet?
I have a lot of cast iron skillets for sauces and sauteeing. I'm steering toward the 11" or 13" french skillet with lid to use for braising meats, etc.
What say you F&D Board? French Skillet or Fry pan and which size is best?

Funny story, the gift card is to Macy's...
I opened it and gave my wife a bit of a WTF look when I saw Macy's. To which she replied "I checked, they sell All Clad and a bunch of other shite there"...

Haha my sister works there. Everything is on sale all the time. They sell all sorts of kitchen stuff except cast iron. But I have the 6 and 10 inch fry and the 13 skillet. I use the 10 for everything. The skillet only gets pulled out for really large dishes.

Hmmm, I've got several old vintage cast iron #9 and #10 Griswold skillets that I use the hell out of. I'm not really aiming to replace them as there are certainly things that iron is better suited to.
I really wanted the stainless because of the easier cleaning and dishwasher safe aspect. Supposedly you get more surface area and better heat with the French Skillet as opposed to the fry pan.

The skillet is a great sauce pan, so if you're looking for that go for it. And you already have enough fry pans it sounds like.

That's what I'm thinking... Maybe someone who has the French Skillet will speak up...

It is good for sauces as noted(especially reduced ones a la alfredo), good for braising of meats on the stovetop

Bump for the night crew, I know a few of you have some All Clad gear...

Sounds like the french skillet is the way for you to go based on what you already have.
Speaking of All Clad...does anyone know if you're able to purchase just a lid? I cannot find the lid to my 4 quart sauce pan.
