The Cars sound like The Cars

First, I LOVE the cars, I'm not knocking them, because on the surface I totally agree with you.

And of course I can tell Rick Ocasek/Orr's voice to that of Ferry's. In the Cars case I felt it was more the early sound/look then the voices.

I think in the end, it's obviously impossible to be void of outside influences. I'm sure anyone of us could nit pick any group that's posted in this thread

Glad to see this stopped being a thread about the pixies.

James Brown probably belongs in this thread.

But when you get away from bands and get into solo artists I guess it is a little bit easier to call them "unmistakable"

this is a music board were people should be exposed as much as possible regardless of your opinion on specific singers
True, but that has nothing to do with why everyone should ignore you.

I like both singers, but David Byrne is not nearly as impactful as Bryan Ferry was in the world of music.
I'm sorry, he's just not
Great, this thread has nothing to do with impactful.

But the problem with you is you have limited knowledge of Bryan Ferry, where as I have knowledge of both
I know plenty about Bryan Ferry. You and I will not agree on him or Roxy. that's just taste. OTOH, I think most here will say your perception of Roxy is not theirs. Again, that's not what this thread is about.

no you don't, but that's ok.

I'm not your enemy,
listen to 'Stranded,Country Life,and Siren'

This thread is about originality, and an unmistakable sound.

I've stated that two Talking Heads songs, if not more, were HEAVILY influenced by Roxy Music.
I've given you links
to the songs

Don't care if you ignore me, you've brought nothing to this thread anyway

James Brown is great but what's totally unique to the sound of his band?

Lot of these are just "bands I like" rather than explaining the uniqueness.

This is a perfect example of a Band that has an unmistakable sound due to alot of great talent coming together.

Some of the other bands listed are filled with front man that say "Ok, I wanna sound like this, but bring this and that and the other into it"

I always thought that Joe Jackson had his own unique sound. Loved his stuff.
