Would Zeppelin count? I've listened to them so much I really wouldn't know any more. Paige, Jones, and Bonham ARE all pretty distinctive IMO.

no you don't, but that's ok.

This thread is about originality, and an unmistakable sound
quote:Great. That doesn't mean THs don't have an unmistakable sound.
I've stated that two Talking Heads songs, if not more, were HEAVILY influenced by Roxy Music.
I've given you links
to the songs
quote:In your opinion. Pointing out douchebags is a service i provide for free.
Don't care if you ignore me, you've brought nothing to this thread anyway
Oh, and short of Avalon and More Than This, Roxy Music sucks arse.

Avalon and More Than This
don't let that be your end exposure!!!
and Don't let your anger over my statements let you miss out on some great sounds
I knew and loved Talking Heads way before I knew of early Roxys, then I found out where David Byrne got alot of his early sound.
I was like you, all I knew where songs like Avalon and more than this etc..
You obviously have taste, there's know reason you can't have a listen to some of these early gems
despite your opinion of me

btw, I'm not here to champion Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry.
I was here to point out that the Talking Heads sound was not unmistakable, as Two songs from their library were borrowed from the Roxy.

James Brown is great but what's totally unique to the sound of his band?
His voice is what is unique. You know it as soon as you hear it.
His voice is unmistakable.

If every guitar in the world was playing at the same time. Ten bucks says I could still pick out Eddie Van Halen.

This is a perfect example of a Band that has an unmistakable sound due to alot of great talent coming together.
What's disturbing about Fleetwood Mac is that we mainly remember the songs and the vocals, particularly. The "Classic" lineup had 3 lead vocalists, who were excellent harmonizers as well - when a band can pull this off, (The Eagles and The Band come to mind), it sometimes overshadows how good the musicianship is.
Fleetwood Mac was literally lightning in a bottle - you could not combine those ingredients in another era and get the same result. Stevie played nothing, normally, except a tamborine, although she is probably a passable keyboardist, being a songwriter. However, the other 4 in the classic lineup were incredible instrumentalists. Combining great singers, great songs with great musicianship is a recipe for success AND an unmistakable sound.
