Trust it to your credit union. You're not ready to invest in the market.

I wonder if this will become a monthly, weekly, or daily thread?

Take the time and pay money if you have to and become educated about the stock markets. Learn about yourself and your situation and your expectations. You should take at least a year and try different strategies on paper to see about how you would've done in reality. Do you want to buy and hold? Swing trade? Day trade? Do you want dividend-paying stocks? Penny stocks?Do you want to employ shorting as part of your trading? Options? All of the above? If you're diligent about it, after a year you should know if you're up to the task or not.
DON'T just go buy a stock that somebody tells you to buy because of whatever. You MUST have a strategy as to when to sell - both at a profit and a loss. Trading stocks can be quite complicated but the more you know about it the more you will be able to focus on a few keys that seem to work for you more often than not.
Good Luck.

Try to stick to the ones that go up in value.

I was forced to stare in disbelief at a thread on an investment subreddit that someone said in response a inquiry of the most undervalued stock out there was Apple.
Note that this was after the lukewarm iPad mini release at that.

Buy funds that index the S&P 500 or something like that to start with. Next start researching. If you want to take more chances, once you have read alot and feel ready, move from teh S&P 500 into individual stocks. Keep in mind that it gets pretty complicated if you do this vs keeping your money in an index fund.

Only buy stocks that are going to go up.
