Why the huge love fest for this guy? His film resume seems ok, but nothing great and he's only had supporting actor roles in the bigger movies he's been in.

The answer to your question is Stringer Bell on The Wire, an incredible character that was played absolutely perfectly by Elba. That is basically the sole reason he is so beloved.

I agree on the Stringer Bell aspect. He was great in that role. My comment was more directed towards people whipping it out and beating it like mad because this guy is in a movie. I guess I need to see him play a lead role in a substantial sized movie before I put him on my instant fap list.

I remember a rumor a few years back that he was being considered as the next Bond. Craig is good but I would have really liked to see Elba. I think he would have been solid.

He was exceptional in The Wire and has been exceptional in Luther on BBC. He could have had a break-out part in the new Alex Cross reboot had they done a decent job of casting and went with him and not made the movie so shitty.
Just seems like one of those guys that's destined to be a star if he gets the right role.
