| 3.5" 00 Buckshot - what kind of choke? (Posted on 12/11/12 at 10:34 pm)
Stoeger 3500. Max shot 50 yards, but would most likely be shooting 15-30 yards. What kind of choke should I use for this? RIP arm

Not sure where your hunting, but when I get on stand in marsh I shoot them in head regardless of rack because I don't want to chase them.

You are gonna have to shoot your gun and find out. Some may shoot pattern good with full others with cylinder.

You're going to have to pattern it with different choke/load combos. Some guns like certain brands more than others and some shoot it all good. In my experience, OO patterns best through modified chokes.

I would not go w/ a full choke Modified should do the trick I've killed a doe with 20ga 3" 00 Buckshot at 35-40 yds

my SBE performes better with modified or light modified (no real difference that i can tell). full tends to have more pellets fall short. you will still get some pellets that will occasionally fall short no matter what. that is inherent to all 3.5" 12 gauges.

Crap, I see I forgot to mention that part. I use modified too. Dropped one across the canal last year at 55-60yds, with 10ga.

Modified works well. I have my kicks high flyer already on there. Eta. I've never actually killed a deer with a shotgun. No choice though. My scope it's more of a nuisance in there.

Not sure what you're shooting, but finding a load with a full cup wad and buffering matters more than the choke. Federal makes a load with a wad similar to the black cloud wad that's supposed to pattern really well. You may want to try it.

Def dont use full without patterning it. Ive seen some horrible patterns with full. Some can handle it though.

Get a Patternmaster. Scary on my 10ga. Shot a buck in front of the dogs with it and he dropped like a rabbit.

My 16ga is full choke and it is badass with buckshot. My 12ga with a full choke shoots all buckshot like shite.

Definitely pattern it. I like full out of my Auto 5 and my Fox double barrel
