How about Townes Van Zandt holding a loaded 6 shooter to his head and pulled the trigger 3 times not knowing if he'd shoot himself.
I'll inject a little fact: Aldean, Chesney, Rascal Flats, Luke Bryan and all that shite is the Nickleback of country.

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton is a great example to talk about. What is it about Blake Shelton that makes him not country?
I ask this because he is from very rural Oklahoma. Still lives there and hasn't permanently moved to Nashville. He hunts, fishes, etc. What is it about his lifestyle doesn't make him country? Does he need to do cocaine and potentially shoot people? Seriously, because he is on TV he's not country anymore?
For the most part I don't care for his music. But this is the problem with this thread. He is country music. The music is no different than the town you grew up in. Let's say Baton Rouge, just for example. You may not like the way it looks today but it is still Baton Rouge. In 20 years it may look different. Things change.

i'm not saying he isn't country music because by today's definition of country music, he's a shining example of country music.
country music.
i just do not like him. i'm not the type of person who abandons a band because they sell out, but every mainstream country artist is a sell out. it's happened for a while. i think conway and george and johnny sold out. i still like their music. i don't like blake's voice or most of the songs he sings. i'm not saying i hate all of his songs, but for most of them i get a little nauseous

I already told you, it's pop. with cowboy hats and pooka shells.
You claim to be this music expert (btw you have no idea who I am or who I know) and still can't tell me what is country music. So let me come up with TheDoc's definition of country music: "whatever I say it is."
What are you going to come up with next? Alan Jackson not country either? How about Brooks and Dunn? Alabama wasn't country either. Neither was Travis Tritt or Mark Chesnutt. None of them were named Waylon or Wille or Cash so they're not country either. Oh yea and they weren't from Texas.

This is the point I'm trying to make. He is country music even though I don't really like him.

lolololol. I'm sitting in North Carolina with no place to go and nothing to do but play around on the interwebs .. and I find this thread.
More plot lines than Downton Abbey.
Thanks to all of you for the chuckles.

That might be the dumbest comment I've ever read in my life. Alan Jackson and Mark Chesnutt aren't country?
