| Syria and Chemical Weapons... (Posted on 12/8/12 at 5:08 am)
What will the world do if Syria does unleash its chemical stockpile? Supposed they have already started mixing sarin gas, and it has to be used within a 2 week time table before it must be destroyed. So I think we find out pretty soon how desperate Syria is. What will the response of the world be?

The Russians and Chinese would be forced to abandon public support for the Syrian regime. There will be nowhere for the regime members to seek exile. The regime will be toppled, with the assistance of air strikes by NATO out of Turkey and from the U.S. Sixth Fleet. The air strikes will focus on eliminating the Syrian Air Force's capability to deliver bombs containing chemical weapons. Then there will be fighting among the various rebel groups in Syria while power gets consolidated by whomever is the best organized faction. It will quite likely be Hezbollah, or some affiliated group who has the support of Iran, and reinforcements from Lebanon.

What happens if the US nukes Britain tomorrow? More likely scenario, since Syria doesn't have chemical weapons. Even if they did, using them would be tantamount to suicide for the leadership. As someone else already said, the leadership would not be able to seek asylum anywhere in the world; allowing it would be a huge stain on any state's image, and they wouldn't have it. It'd be like smashing your telephone as a general a century ago.

Yeah, but don't forget, the Martians beamed them up in 2003 and only JUST deposited them in 2011, otherwise we would have invaded Syria earlier.

I was watching an interview with an expert on chemical weapons on CNN the other night. They were saying that a single 110mm shell of Sarin gas landing in a populated city could kill 20-50 thousand people in a few hours. That is truly terrifying. What is possibly more terrifying is that even if we bomb the missile sites, the gas would still be released and kill even more people. The only way we'd be able to stop these chemical weapons from being used is a precise special forces insertion.... And there are dozens of missile sites if I heard correctly... This almost CANNOT end well if diplomacy falls apart.

Death sentence for Syria's current regime. As already stated, it would justify NATO action to topple the regime.

The Russians actually came in and took them across the border... That's anecdotal from a couple of Iraqi guys that loaded them on helicopters... They said they could've been other eastern Europeans, but they couldn't tell... I blame the Slovakians

why do i care if they use chemical weapons in a civil war? as an american why should i be willing to pay for others protection? if anything this is a european responsibility, let them pay for it. tired of bailing everybody else out. WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO DO A DAMN THING. thats the bottom line. Im sure the war machine posters will hate me after this post and call me evil.btw I am a vet saying this.
