I have an offer for a considerable raise to go with a major oil company on one of their floating assets, it would be a no brainer except that i am in a decent position at my current platform, but with the way the company is changing my timeline for moving up is starting to stretch out. im talking an immediate 40% increase in pay and a chance to be hired on with the company within a year, plus after i make a few hitch there is potential for another pay increase. I would be going from 7 and 7 to 14 and 14

If it was me I'd be all over the new job. But I'm looking at a huge decrease in pay coming up in the spring.

Not sure where you live in relation to where you have to catch a chopper, but i have always liked 14/14 better, less time spent travelling so you actually have more days to yourself. I always like a new challenge also, any time i get a chance to move to a new area within my company i jump at it.

Any time you can advance yourself in your career, you take it, IMO.

This sounds like you would be hired on as a contractor. As a contractor would you have any additional benefits? 401k and insurance? 40% increase may sound nice but if you don't have insurance and anyone in your family gets sick and needs a hospital stay you can kiss that 40%+ goodbye. I'd want security of a job as well. Your post said there was a "chance" to be hired on.

I would jump all over a 40% pay increase.

So you're not going to be hired on immediatly? The money sounds great but what is the potential that you'd get layed off from the new job before that first year was up?

Take the job. Work for a year or two. Transfer to a job you like better with and keep your job title and pay

Jump all over that shit, I always liked 14&14 better anyway and working for a oil company is as high as you can get in our industry. Benefits alone should make it a no brainier.
