re: McConnell filibusters his own bill

I don't understand what you don't understand. He objected to an up or down vote because an up or down vote eliminates debate on the floor and decreases the amount of votes needed to pass. This isn't difficult stuff. He wanted the normal debate time and votes necessary to pass the bill.

McConnell objected to the lack of debate on his bill. You know, the way the senate almost always operates?

Omg look at me, I think I am so smart.

Wtf difference does it make if the Dems were ready to vote on and pass his bill. What was McConnell so afraid of, it was his bill jackass.

If you read, and comprehended the content of the OP you wouldn't have looked so foolish in your response.

51 votes vs. 60? Normal floor debate vs. ramming it through to a final vote?

quote:

By all or most accounts that amounted to a filibuster.
The difference between a want and you is that he knows what a filibuster is. You don't. Do yourself a favor. Look it up. Come back when you've found a definition that fits what you suppose McConnell did.
quote:

They just made all of this up?
No nitwit.
Harry Reid lied. The Leftist sources cited here followed suit.

Even Reid framed actually framed his lie as a "guess" -- kind of like his guess about Romney paying no taxes, no doubt. When McConnell said this would constitite a major action on the part of the Senate worthy of normal rules and normal discussion, Reid idiotically said, "So I guess we have a filibuster of his own bill".

There was no bill to filibuster. There was no threat of filibuster from McConnell. There was no filibuster. Reid refused to bring the bill to the floor. He wouldn't discuss it. Wouldn't debate it. Just wanted the Senate to circumvent rules to vote on it. If there was going to be actual discussion or debate, Reid was not going to allow it.

The media was then given talking points from Harry Reid's office. Left leaners in the press regurgitated those TPs, their cronies savored them like a cud via JournoList then all put pen to paper and carried Harry's dirty water for him.

Who knows. You don't. I don't.

Why?

Because Harry Reid refused to bring the Bill to the floor under normal Senate Rules.

re: McConnell filibusters his own bill

[quote]In the span of hours, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday challenged Democrats to an immediate vote giving President Barack Obama unilateral power to increase the nation’s borrowing limit, then reversed course and blocked his own bill when Democrats agreed.

“This is an idea opposed by Democrats and Republicans alike; it's a power grab that has no support here,” McConnell said of giving the president power to increase the debt ceiling. He then moved for a Senate vote on the issue.

After initially objecting to the vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., later announced he was ready to conduct a vote on McConnell’s proposal, signaling the Democrats had at least 51 votes to pass the Kentuckian’s idea.

McConnell responded that “matters of this level of controversy always require 60 votes.”

Reid declined to agree to that, adding that “what we have is a case of Republicans in the Senate once again not taking ‘yes’ for an answer.”

McConnell then said of the pending vote on his plan: “I object.” In effect, he was saying he would filibuster his own bill, a move that would require 60 votes to stop
. The measure was not voted on.

No "in effect" he was saying, "let's see whether the Dems are ready to pass the President's proposal to cede Constitutional Authority from the Legislative to the Executive." He was "in effect" saying "let's have that debate." He may well have let the thing pass unfettered once he had Democrat votes on record. The thing would not have passed the House and would not pass SCOTUS. The point was the floor discussion/debate. Harry Reid said there ain't gonna be no debate.

To claim anyone EVER in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD "filibustered a bill" that had not even been brought to the floor for consideration is bat shite stupid.

Damn atleast the writer said "in effect." You just flat out put words in Reid's mouth. Very hypocritical. Some of you drink more of your own kool-aid than an uneducated dem, the hypocrisy is on another level here.

You're picking nits. You're basically calling me a liar b/c I said someone dove off the Empire State building when actually they jumped (feet first).

McConnell got pwnd. He was trying to force democrats to go on record so the GOP could use it against them in the 21014 elections. It backfired. You're just haggling over nonsense.

McConnell wanted the Dems in the Senate on record as to their support of Obama's fiscal cliff proposal(which they want nothing of).

quote:

Moments ago, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the floor and offered an immediate vote on President Obama’s fiscal cliff plan, which shocked the Beltway late last week. (In case you’re keeping score at home, this was the surreal proposal that induced McConnell to laugh out loud as it was outlined by Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner). Harry Reid quickly objected and shut the whole thing down, labeling the suggestion a “stunt.”

Think about that. The President of the United States, a Democrat, crafted a fiscal cliff package that would give him everything he wants. It has tax hikes on the rich. It has huge tax hikes on investments and estates. It has more stimulus spending. It has no meaningful, specific, or guaranteed spending cuts. And it compels Congress to cede control of the debt ceiling to him. This is “fairness” on steroids.

The Senate’s top Republican proposed an up-or-down vote on everything the president wants, yet Democrats, who control the upper chamber, instantly blocked it. By what definition is it a “stunt” to hold a vote on the president’s full, public plan? The White House has insisted it’s a serious document, yet Hill Democrats don’t want it to see the light of day.

The writer is wrong. The OP title reflects a flat out lie. You defended both. Then you have the audacity to call others hypocritical?

Seriously?

This was the right's position on 12/5. It seems to have changed on 12/6. You might want to follow up.

The right's position hasn't changed, but slimeball Harry Reid doing Obama's dirty work won't put the Dems on record as to voting for the insanity from Obama. Now we know they aren't committed to Obama's insanity, just like they weren't when his last budget went down with 0 votes. Obama and Reid are playing chicken with the future of economy. That is now on record for sure.

You really are a clown.
