LSU's Les Miles tries to clarify why his name was linked to Arkansas job

LSU coach Les Miles just recently received a seven-year extension from LSU, but he said the reports linking him to the Arkansas job were not simply to get a raise. (AP Photo/David Quinn)
Les Miles told SiriusXM College Sports Nation this week his name was not floated for the now-filled Arkansas job so he could get a raise or an extension from LSU.
"That was not the case with Arkansas," said Miles, who got a seven-year extension from LSU. "I have great respect for the institution and certainly what they've accomplished in our conference. Jeff Long, the AD there is longtime friend of mine and associate. I recognized the professionalism that he offers. So there was a sincerity about our conversations - not offer - but a sincerity about our conversations that I certainly had to respect.
"That's not a point of leverage, in my mind. I have never been or needed to be the highest-paid guy in this country. I can tell you that we would compare success here with any. I can tell you that we're more affixed in the longevity of the contract than we are with how much we're making. The opportunity to be here seven years and continue success and hopefully continue to exceed expectations is what we've set as the mark."
He also reiterated his commitment to LSU during the interview.
"I would be foolish to leave," he said.

Isn't it just 2 more years on his current contract with 5 years remaining?

When is this implemented?

Note that he didn't say "continue to exceed the ever-increasingly delusional expectations often expressed on the Rant by a few select idiots".

For those with realistic expectations, it has been in play for years.

The perfect LSU season for the typical Rant poster is for the team to go undefeated, win the national championship and the head coach gets fired.
Nailed it.

LSU under Les Miles is one of the most overrated teams in the nation. Rivals did an article a while back. Les disappoints yearly, finishing lower than where he starts in the preseason.

it's actually true.
It was to get a raise and extension. not simply a raise.

If i was Aleva I'd immediately call some lawyers and Les in a room to renegotiate Les' pay back to its previous level then. This is like Les bragging that no one called his bluff.
Here is the obvious question: what was Les willing to do if LSU didn't renegotiate his contract?
He had to have SOME leverage right?

As usual with this kinda stuff, it's much to do bout nothing.
LSU has always been a good job, but when the TAF and the LSU president decided to finally put up big time pay...LSU became a great job.
As to the LM pay raise, if he hadn't had one since 08, then he was deserving of one.

According to whose expectations?
An, based on this criteria, which coaches annually overperformed someone else's expectations?
Finally, it is good that the people that write the checks are the ones that set expectations. If the Rant made hiring/firing decisions we'd be hiring a new coach every year.

When will it ever stop? Seriously! Who made you or Rivals the know-it-all source?
