Russ Mitchell of collegefootballnews blasts Arky hire

was listening to BR radio in my car and he was on as a guest. Made a few interesting points.
-Big Ten historically bad during his tenure, 5 loss team in the Rose Bowl this year.
- Went 23-1 against the bottom four of the Big Ten, was under .500 against the other seven schools.
-Recruiting classes ranked in the 50's
-Wants to try to win games the same way Saban, Muschamp, Richt and Les do, which won't work at Arkansas because of the lack of talent in that state. Petrino's strength was the contrast with that style.
-No experience whatsoever south of Manhattan, Kansas. Says comparisons to Saban and Urban Meyer are ridiculous because a) Saban is a once in a lifetime coach and b) Urban was at Florida which almost recruits itself unlike Arkansas who needs someone dynamic.
I'm not sure I agree with him (I have been positive about the hire) but he did bring up some interesting points I hadn't thought of.

Agree agree agree. We might be irrelevant now.

I think this is way over blown. If he handles his staff well, which seems to be the focal point of this whole coaching hire anyways. He left wisky because they wouldn't pay their assistants enough to retain them, which as he stated does point towards him making good hires. He comes here takes a bump down from our orignal offer to get a bigger assitant coaching budget. Seems like he understands the importance of a competent staff which is the real key to recruiting.

Heard him last night saying this- also made some smartass comment that sounded like he follows Clay Travis- that's all I needed to know to form my opinion of him.

He has advantages here that he never had there as far as building a staff.
We are closer to better recruiting areas than Wisconsin is.
Now that I have had a reason to compare, I think Wisconsin was a tougher place to win at than most people realize.
Time will tell. Staff will be key.

The only person besides BB to win there was Barry alvarez.... he's referred to as a legend. BB has a better winning percentage.

He was recruiting to fricking Wisconsin, That state produces like five 3 stars a year, If he hires some guys with southern ties (especially Texas ties) then he will be pulling in good classes here. He seems like a guy that recruits would like to play for.

FIRE HIM NOW! OMG!
Maybe we can get Tenn to take over his contract so we can track down Dooley or Chiz! WPS!

actually DS doesn't seem like he's being a dick here. I prefer this DS to his previous posting style.

I didn't realize their is so many 4-5 star recruits in WISCONSIN! The dude made chicken salad with chicken poop up there.
He is a very good coach and a good hire. Bookmark and come back after next season.

Not competing against the same level of competition up there though, and when you look at his record breakdown he feats on the dreggs and struggles mightily against the mid to top level teams in that conference.

Thanks being so concerned about Arkansas' newest coach and taking time to post it some nobody's opinion about it. Who is Russ Mitchell and why should we as Arkansas fans care?

He beats all the ones he's supposed to and then breaks slightly less than even on the good teams. Sounds pretty much like what petrino was doing here.

Why can't he go get the same type lineman from out of state, like he did at Wiscy?
Recruit to SEC. That hill ain't too high.

Kiff bumped Bebe from La-foosh to asst. HC today, or something like that.
Bebe is living the red-bull dream on the WC.

That's pretty dumb of him to say.
Most people think Petersen, Patterson, etc. are good hires, but those guys have gotten their coaching records against much, much weaker competition than most all bigger name coaches.

It's funny how much this hire seems to bother the LSU fanbase. Why are yall so insecure?
