| Anyone ever used the MOJO Mallard Machine? (Posted on 12/5/12 at 12:06 pm)
Looks promising, especially since it works with three decoys. I have a couple concerns of remote vs hard wired and how big of a pain in the arse it is to set up with te 12v battery. And most importantly, does it bring em out of the stratosphere into shooting range?

Saw one in action. Birds did drop in on it. I sure it's a PITA to set up.

I find many aspects of duck hunting to be a pain in the arse

Yea i've got one & works really well in calm water to make lots of ripples. After you set it out a couple times it gets easier & you can get it done faster. The first couple of times I got hands & sleeves wet from dropping shite

We have one at our place but it just stays out. It works well.

We have one in the rice field and it doesn't work very well. I think the water isn't deep enough to make the deeks look like they are feeding. The prop just spins in the middle and makes large bubbles which still creates ripples but its not what I expected.

Definately dig a hole underneath it. Before I dug a hole, the water on my farm was not very deep, and the prop kept getting full of grass and old crops, then seize up.

Do you still have to hook them up with the tiny alligator clips? Those things are almost impossible to work with in the dark with cold hands.

I use one in a rice field and it works great. We leave it out and have a wire running to the blind. I did try to convert it to the remote controlled setup ad didn't like it. I just use a toggle switch wired to run it and leave the rest hooked up. On a calm day it's as good as it gets

I don't have the MOJO mallard maching, but I made a few motion decoys last season that worked pretty well. I used a duck but and attatched a bilge pump to the bottom with pvc on the discharge to make the bubbles/ripples. Made a water proof box to hold the battery. All hard wired, plug it in and go.

We put it in the deepest part of the rice field and I dug it as far as I could with my hand but I figured we needed to dig deeper. Anyone know how deep it needs to be?

We never pick ours up. The biggest benefit is it puts motion on the entire spread of there's no wind blowing. which means it works best on calm days.

I hunt in the marsh and the mud is soft so I shouldn't have a problem witch digging holes. I'm just hoping they think its ducks feeding on all of the wigeon grass that's down there.

They work great for us in the timber. We leave ours wired up to our blind all season. Just take the 12v deep cycle battery out to recharge at night. They save your arse when there is little to no wind blowing.

So here's a question. I got the machine last night, if I hunt in the marsh and there's a current, is it going to float off? Is it supposed to sit on/touch the bottom or does it just float under the dekes? The instructions aren't very clear

If there's a current and your decoys move, there's no need for it, really.

It depends on the tide. There are times it gets really really flat

You may have to anchor it. If it drifts into the other decoys it can be a major PITA. If it's windy you don't need it. Only hit it when they aren't looking. I've seen people get excited with them and they flared the ducks. If there is alot of vegetation in the water it can hang the prop up, especially in rice fields.
