| Why Do Teachers Think They Are Under-Valued? (Posted on 12/3/12 at 9:15 pm)
Yeah, I know this isn't a new topic. Anyway, they get $50k plus a year to work 8.5/12 months (2 weeks off for Xmas, 1 week of for Mardi Gras, 2.5 months for summer, 1 week for Thanksgiving), they get to retire at 50, they get great benefits, and they work 8 hour days but get 1 hour off plus a 30 minute lunch. Teachers will bitch that off period is planning but I don't get an hour to plan at work nor do I get any of the other perks such as getting paid 3 plus months to not work. Plus with teacher unions suffocating the schools, they get job security. I guess I chose the wrong profession.

You act like teachers have some relaxing job. Would you want to be around bratty kids all day.. and doing your best to teach them how to pass an exam?

You can always make a career change. You should jump at the opportunity to have such a cushy job.

Poor teachers are overpaid. Good teachers aren't paid nearly what they are worth.

I worked as a substitute teacher for 3 years while in college and while it's not the same as teaching, I still had to deal with the bastard kids. For that type of pay, I'd glady suck it up. All jobs have bad elements to them.

I'm a teacher. Not in the union. Knew what I was getting when I first decided to go this route. Don't care whether I'm valued or not. I enjoy it.
