Washer is not spinning or agitating. HELP !! (pic pg 2)

I have crossed out the belt and the timer, both are intact and the water is filling up and draining. Just no spinning going on.
I think I have it narrowed down to the motor/transmission, but I really have no idea what I am looking at or doing.
I took off the front of it and poked around, but google isn't really helping me past this point.
It's a GE model, about 5-6 years old.
My question: Is it worth getting someone to come out and replace a part, or should I buy a new one for ~$400??
(Oh and brought this to the OB because I know y'all are a bunch of DIY and handymen type, and 1000 times better than the OT)

Sounds like you burnt up the motor

So this would require replacing the motor... is that typically easy to DIY and cost effective? Or should I get a new one?

You're looking at about 80-100 on a new motor I believe plus another 100 for someone to change it

Try calling a repair place tomorrow, I don't know sheet about fixing a washer but that is where I would start.

They have 3 little plastic locks that break if you overload it. It saves the motor or tranny I guess.
Cost, about 3$, easy fix.

She said you're old and slow and can be of no assistance here

Motors are very easy to change if that's the problem. Could be the inline fuse( if there is one) or the timer is bad. Not sending the correct signal.
Biggest thing is make sure the motor is bad before replacing.

Where are those located?
Looked up a new transmission for my model and its $180....yuck. Trying to look up price of motor.
Sears has washers for like $350. This is looking better as an option.

I wish I knew how to test that.... looks like a new motor runs about $300 if I am looking at the right part. "drive motor" ?

If you are remotely capable it's easy.
On my washer at least, you pop the top off the agitator, take the retaining nut off and lift the agitator. You just need to be aware of the way the old come out and insert the new the same way.
Good luck.

I could climb inside the damn thing I am that capable
I'll take a look but I think mine is a little different, the entire agitator comes off.

Thanks. Going to poke at it a little while longer, get a friend who is good with motors to take a look, then off to the store if all else fails.

Grainger may have a cheaper motor. Just get the horsepower, shaft size, dimensions. Not sure how you could test the motor.

Find your motor and where your motor hooks to the transmission there is a plastic piece called a coupler. Has there plastic knobs on each side. If the knobs are broke motor runs but does nothing else. Easy fix and cheap
