| In your lifetime, the first HUGE recruit that impacted you (Posted on 11/22/12 at 10:14 pm)
Reading over the Fournette thread, the kid that stands out to me was: Germaine "juice" Williams, an absolute beast who was setting state records when I was in middle school. Went on to play at LSU for Hallman while I was usher for CAP but never broke out. That was the first time I'd ever heard of a kid in high school with the cant miss label. I remember Booty/Manning, but we were busy winning state 2 of 3 years in BB to notice (Peyton flubbed a grounder at SS at our house in State). I'm curious with all the younger kids if we have some McKnight, Perriloux, Faulk, etc and what there stories are.

I didn't really follow recruiting extensively until I was in HS, and my peers were the ones being recruited. I'll have to say that McKnight was a pretty big letdown, but I think it all worked out for the better.

C'mon dude. These kids are 17 or 18. None of them should ever impact you. You are an adult.

I remember when Brock Berlin was a senior at Evangel and they came to Baton Rouge to play Catholic in the state 5A semis. He was on the front page of the Advocate the day of the game. He lived up to the hype that night and they went on to win state. Of course, his career at Florida was a different story. ETA: I was 13 when this game took place.

I don't think I've ever been "impacted" by a recruit. I don't think I ever will. I've been glad to see us land kids, sure, but impacted is a strong word.

I take the impact part of the question to mean like the recruit that really got you hooked on recruiting or made you want to follow recruiting at all. The recruit that did that for me was Ronald Curry from Hampton, VA. Absolute beast in hs and still the best I've ever seen at the hs level. Also had a flip at the end of his recruitment that kind of set the tone for how things work now.

Miami I think booty was the first I ever heard of as being big time. I have never followed recruiting closely though

Well, you did say "in your lifetime"... I agree with the others, I'm personally affected by none of them.

Yea but he started out at Florida. Rex Grossman beat him out and he transferred.

That 04 class of Doucet, Xavier, and Glenn is what hooked me.

My freshman year of Varsity football when I was playing free safety and I had to come downhill to tackle Mawelde Moore from Belair in the open field. Impacted me so much that I almost dislocated my shoulder. Made the tackle though and he went on to play in the NFL. IMPACTED my life for sure that night and well into the following week ...

God I remember being in Benilde waiting on the press conference. Letdown was an understatement (at the time).

The Jamarcus Russel/Dwayne Bowe/Laron Landry class got me hooked. I was a freshman at LSU and just starting to get more into LSU football in general. We were going toe to toe with Miami for Bowe, the 2 OP walker kids (Buster Davis who was actually somewhat of an afterthought to a stud safety named Daryl Johnson who never made it to campus). Those two as well as Laron Landry and Kirston Pittman were damn close to going to Miami. The class really came together like the week of signing day which doesn't really happen anymore so it was pretty exciting. We also battled USC for two kids from Curtis who were blue chips, Ryan Watson and Carnell Stewart. The first player I saw in person that was "can't miss" was Shyrone Carey. He was a couple years older than me but I was at a catholic league school and he tore everyone in that league a new a-hole.

I followed McKnight, but it didn't impact me nearly as much as Landon Collins recruitment. Outside of that, probably one of my buddies who currently plays on the team. He's a pretty good ball player now, just as he was since day one. I knew he was going to be a Tiger long before a lot of people did though, so there wasn't much to do about it.
