| What to eat the week of a half-marathon? (Posted on 11/22/12 at 9:30 pm)
I have lots of left over turkey, and I hope to use it. Any ideas on how I can make my left overs work for me? Or some knowledge on what I should be eating ? I felt this was a more appropriate place than the OT. ETA; title fixed and apologies further down

Not being a smart ass, but how do you go into a week of a marathon and not know what to eat?

Why do you think the food boarders are marathoners. You probably need to find someone that has run several marathons and get some advice. Now if you need a good bourbon, jambalaya recipe or first beer of the day this we can help with.

no apologies necessary. I do agree that you are most likely to get a good gumbo recipe or how to cook a steak here.

Just eat normal man.... Do Not eat something that will give you the poo hiney! Needing to take a shite while running 13.1 miles and not knowing where the next port o potty is would fricking suck! Also, don't worry about hydrating that much, I did my first two and had to stop and piss twice during the race! Not sure where you are, but I hope your not running the Stennis race in MS...

Sure you do. Eat the leftover turkey and eat some good pastas. And not sure about the don't worry about hydrating because that's not correct. But hydration is a constant and should be an everyday thing not drink a gallon of water just before the race. This will ensure cramps and need for urinating. Carry a small bag of almonds or a gel pack or two. Half marathon is quite a run for a lot of people. I did one a decade ago and my wife runs them pretty regular. Tons of runners on here that will help. I'm not one of them.

And good luck. My knees and ankles won't allow that anymore and it is one thing I really miss.

Maybe not for you, but for some it is a big deal. There are things you do or could do that would be an accomplishment for you that would not be for others.

for me to run it I'd have to look at the restaurants along the route for breakfast, lunch and dinner because that's how long it would take. But I do have many running friends my wife included. One not long ago registered to run a half marathon and when he was almost done just decided to go ahead and make it a full marathon. On a whim. He's getting ready to run a fifty miler.

I assume he doesn't visit this board often and never noticed the 10,000 post thread of lard butts. Run a marathon? Yeesh.
