| Frying a turkey - oil or oil less? (Posted on 11/22/12 at 10:20 am)
I have always deep fried my turkey's with oil. Trying oil less turkey fryer this year since my wife bought it for me. Hope it turns out ok. What is everyone else's preference?

Depends on how you prep it. I have noticed that an OIL turkey has a better skin[CRISPY] but still has a great flavor. The oil-less turkey will melt in your mouth. I like them either way.

I find that infrared fryers, the oil less, taste a lot better...a lot more of the turkey flavor, almost smokey taste...love it

Prepped it the same way I prep any other turkey. Tony Chachere rub on outside and creole butter injection. Let it sit at room temp before putting in fryer.

give it a shot...if you cook it right you will like it we tried it one year, about 20 of us fried the turkey (oil-less) for the first time...liked it so much we went bought another one just to fry it again The difference is noticeable...but we have never gone back to oil frying

I have both setups and the family has asked or oil less every year since I got it. Lightly coat the outside with oil and it will have the same crispy outside

We used to fry in oil every yr, but about 4 yrs ago started using "The Big Easy" oil-less fryer. Works great, moist, crispy outside. The family (and friends) prefer the oil-less now.

Fried in hog lard is the best fried turkey you will have.

The Big Easy. Get a wireless thermometer and you can just let is cook outside while you visit.

Bought my dad the Big Easy last year and it is really good. Plus we don't have to deal with oil cleanup after

Also, you can cook a lot of different things in The Big Easy fryer. It's not just for Turkeys.

I'm currently doing mine in my oil less fryer. I've yet to have anything bad come out of this thing.
