Homeland Security involved in criminal investigations? (Posted on 11/21/12 at 8:00 am)
There was an arrest of a Shreveport man in a child pornography case, obviously if the allegations are true we have a troubled individual, my question is why is DHS involved in a non terror related domestic criminal investigation?
CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A Caddo Parish man has been arrested for possession of child pornography.
56-year-old Michael S. Nodes is charged with 28 counts of pornography involving juveniles.
Investigators with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at Nodes' home at 5577 Grace Lane in Shreveport on November 19. There, detectives say they found that Nodes was in possession of child pornography and that he was the one who had previously downloaded child pornography from the residence.

It just seems they are getting involved with a million things they have no business being involved in? Why in the world would HS be involved in a Parish level criminal investigation?

without knowing the specifics of the case, my guess is DHS was involved because of customs and border patrol. If anything came through the mail from outside the US, they have a role.

This
Child pornography is distributed across state and federal borders which causes federal authorities to become involved.
Chances are this was a LSP investigation in which Homeland Security provided some assistance.
If I had to guess Homeland security probably gave either technical assistance or provided information to state investigators.
