The Saints drew first blood by giving the Falcons their first loss of the season. Many of their first 9 wins were due to the ball bouncing heavily in their favor, much like the Arizona game this past weekend. The Falcons crumble under pressure, and with our beloved Black and Gold turning up the pressure with each win, the Falcons are primed for a late season collapse.

If the Falcons lose 4 of their next 6 games and the Saints win out, the Saints take the division. Here is their remaining schedule:

@ Tampa Bay
New Orleans
@ Carolina
New York Giants
@ Detroit
Tampa Bay

Atlanta can very easily go 2-4 in this stretch by splitting games with Tampa Bay, beating Carolina, and losing their games against the Saints, Giants, and Lions on the road.

Two things I think we can count on... NEVER count the Saints out, and the Falcons will have a melt down sometime this season.

i'd have more faith if our schedule wasn't so damn tough.

i have said though that if we win the next 2...we'll win out

Once again, we have to win out for this far fetched scenario to matter

Meanwhile Detroit, NY (only one game ahead of dallas) and Tampa are all in contention for the wildcard

I'll be rooting for ATL on Sunday

probably not, but they haven't exactly played a great schedule so far. They beat washington because RG3 was knocked out, barely beat oakland, and barely beat arizona. They can't run the ball, and they can't stop the run.

Our remaining schedule:

San Francisco - W
we win because we owe them one, and our defense is now playing better than last season's defense.

@ Atlanta - W
with a win vs. San Francisco, and Atlanta's loss to the Buccs this weekend, Atlanta begins to feel the pressure of the Saints closing in on the division.

@ New York Giants - W
Lately this team has owned the Giants. Whatever the reason, we matchup well against the G-Men, and Spags knows their defensive personnel. Spags defense has changed since coming to New Orleans, so they do not have the advantage - we do.

Tampa Bay - W
Our defense is playing better than in our first matchup, and we are at home.

@ Dallas - W
Dallas begins their late season slide, and our defense feeds off of Romo's uncanny ability to turn the ball over often.

Carolina - W
we hate these guys, our defense is playing better than it did in Week 2, and we're at home with a chance to lock up the division.

I don't know if I've ever agreed with a statement more on this board.

Let's not forget the Broncos gave them 5 turnovers in the first quarter of their game and Atlanta had just 13 points to show for it, and almost lost that game to Denver.

Like I said, they've had to have the ball bounce their way A LOT to win their 9 games. Their luck will run out, and with the Saints closing in on them, they'll fold.

This. Winning clouds judgement of the blind and stupid.

I hear what you're saying... but this is Atlanta we're speaking of, who has been limping along all season.

Regardless of what they do, the Saints will win out - and if they do that, the rest may just fall into place.

come on. They could arguably lose any one of those games. They are horrible against the run and horrible at running the ball. An average game by Matt Ryan against any of those teams could be a loss.

Don't forget their game against Carolina where the Panther's DB couldn't have a jump ball any worse then he did allowing Atlanta to get off a game winning field goal at the end.

Yes, they have only lost one game but people shouldn't pretend that they have been dominating teams from start to finish. They have definitely gotten some breaks to go their way so far this season. All it takes is for the breaks they have been getting to begin going against them then suddenly it isn't far fetched to see them drop a few games & come back to the rest of the pack.

to the OP's point, it wouldn't be a meltdown. They barely took Oakland, Carolina and should have lost that game against Arizona. If they don't get the bounces going their way, they are 6-4. Not to mention they beat Denver before Manning and company got into a rhythm (that is not the same Broncos team we see today).

It takes lucky breaks to get to 9-1, but it's not out of the question to think they will stop getting the good side of bounces and start dropping close games.

On a side note, are division titles based solely on overall record or strictly division record?

Our schedule is way, way tougher than that. However, like you said, I like a Saints team with it's back against the wall trying to fight back. It's worked really well so far (except for the Denver game).
