LSU Hoops vs. Northwestern St – PMAC – 7PM – CST
Posted on 11/20/12 at 6:25 am
Posted on 11/20/12 at 6:25 am
When: 11/20/12, 7PM
TV: CST
Radio: 98.1 FM
*Tickets available at LSU Ticket Office or PMAC!*
Tickets are available at LSUtix.net and beginning at 6 p.m. at the upper concourse ticket windows at the Maravich Center. The game is billed as a Purple and Gold Thanksgiving and any fan bringing a can good for donation can purchase a ticket for just $5.
LSU projected starters
1. #1 Anthony Hickey (5’11” 178 sophomore)
2. #0 Charles Carmouche (6’4” 187 senior)
3. #24 Malik Morgan (6’4” 188 freshman)
4. #5 Shavon Coleman (6’5” 195 junior)
5. #2 Johnny O’Bryant (6’9” 256 sophomore)
Northwestern St projected starters:
1. #12 Jalan West (5’10” 175 freshman)
2. #3 Shamir Davis (6’0” 185 senior)
3. #34 Gary Roberson (6’4” 240 senior)
4. #33 James Hublin (6’8” 232 senior)
5. #40 Marvin Frazier (6’8” 220 sophomore)
The Demons (3-0) have started their season very strong averaging over 93 points per game and a scoring margin of over 30 per game. They have 11 players who play at least 12 minutes per game and no one averages more than 25 minutes per game. The Demons play a similar style to the Tigers, forcing turnovers and running with the ball. They do however have depth with the big guys. They have 6 players over 6’7” with significant minutes this year.
In Northwestern St’s only game versus a D1 foe, they played at Campbell University and won 71-67. They only hit 11% from beyond the arc. While DeQuan Hicks has come off the bench in each of their first three games, he leads the team in scoring with 16 points per game. The Tigers (2-0) come into the game after a week long layoff. They look to continue to improve their young team starting with turnovers. While the Tigers have been great at forcing turnovers, 3rd in the country in turnovers per possession, they have also turned it over themselves far too much.
LSU will learn early on in the season if they will be able to break the press. Northwestern will try to keep the Tigers uncomfortable. LSU will need Anthony Hickey to be in control and safe with the ball.
Northwestern State is a pretty good team, but they haven’t seen an LSU quality team yet. The Tigers need to concentrate on continuing their high octane game while limiting their turnovers. If the Tigers continue to shoot like they have and limit their mistakes this game shouldn’t be close.
Prediction:
LSU 88, Northwestern St 69
Season: 17-12

Always great insight, South.

Johnny O'Braynt had mlimited action in practice Sunday and Jones wants him to play, but only if he can. He said it is in the trainers hands now. He has been very adamant about not wanting to put Johnny's career in jeopardy and that he will not play him before he is ready.
He also stated that having Johnny for this game is very important. They play very physical and Jones knows this Northwestern team is no joke.

I haven't been to a game in years. Can I buy tickets at the PMAC tonight or do I need to get there early?

Well as more basketball is played I will be able to do better writeups. I try to take as many sources as possible and extrapolate what I can, but with only a couple games played it's hard to get a good feel for these teams.
Especially when SEC starts, Ill have some really solid writeups.

I have watched all the games since I was a student. Which was a good while ago. First time in a while I felt it was important to go.

A recruiting note from Jones:
On the 2012 recruiting class...
"I think we're done in terms of our signing with the early signing period. We'll have to kind of reevaluate where we are at the end of the season. We'll probably just see how many other guys we will probably attract and possibly one to two more guys for sure that we'll definitely entertain. We'll recruit as hard as we possibly can in trying to fill those other spots as well. We think we've had a tremendous recruiting class, the early class coming in with the guys we have returning on this team should give us a very solid core team. We think that we've answered all the positions that we went in the early signing period wanting to fill. We think that the guys that we're bringing in have the versatility to allow us to play a little different, which will be a huge positive for us as a team. We're excited with all four early signees."
On the effects of recruiting class on current team...
"I think when you look at teams and guys who generally do well or guys who come from winning programs, I think it says a lot for the impact that you can have on a program or your difference maker. Anytime you're looking to play at the next level, I think you have to make an impact where you are. I think anytime you have really good players around you, it will allow for that to happen because you have the ability to really showcase your talent on a whole different level. I think both of those guys [Johnny O'Bryant III and Anthony Hickey], with the nucleus of guys that we have coming in, with the experience they have, will give us that opportunity to challenge at a different level."

fun fact, their starting five outweighs ours by 48 lbs.

And that includes the probable but not for sure O'Bryant. That is why Johnny wants him back for this game. They are physical. They rebound and force turnovers. Much like what LSU wants to do.

They have always had linebackers and defensive ends in the frontcourt.

We should be 4-0 and hopefully the crowd will come out. Im sure LSU makes a big push before that game.
For the people not going because we play crappy opponents, they will not have an excuse for that one.

Thanks for writeup SOS. You keep a lot of people in the loop for LSU basketball that normally wouldn't be.

they barely beat the campbell camels, a school i've never even heard of.

We haven't been to a game in years either. Gave up my season tickets-combination too many other family activities and poor performances. But we will attend when we can and support "the Bullet's boys".

Campbell only lost 1 starter from a team that won 17 games last season including TWICE against Coastal Carolina, a team that beat LSU...
