The real problem with the republican part?? California and New York. Obama's margin of victory in California and New York combined was more than his total margin of victory nation wide. 500,000 votes more. California and New York decided the rest of us would have socialism and incompetence. But for UNCV (urban northeastern and Californian voters) Obama would have been trounced worse than McGovern.

that guy is entitled to his opinion I guess. I don't trust any political "reporting" from Esquire magazine just that cute little top graphic was enough to not take that seriously...he is just spouting the newest liberal talking points "Republicans have no way out...dememented...let fringe take over...hispanics and pandering...yada yada"

I feel dumber for reading that. He should use more quips, because I didn't feel like he took long enough to get to the point.

The real problem with America is it's double minded and unstable in all it's ways. It's a principle vacuum made up of people who have none that are sound, don't know what they should be or that they should have them. They are easily swayed and used. The answer is NOT to become like the irresponsible infants who vote of fluffy bull shite. It's to make a tougher stand on principles, quit allowing the left to dictate the issues with non issue nonsense, and influence young people's minds exactly the way the left has for years now, through entertainment, education, and the MSM. Take a page from the left on this and use their own propaganda tools against them.

I agree the Republican Party is in trouble and needs to adapt, the question is, can/will they. It seems most of the party thinks they need to go further to the right and a vocal minority is trying to push it back to center.

How do you evolve principles? They are either inherently true or false. The Dems feast upon a cornucopia of "special interest" groups that are nothing more than niche voters. The only thing that is stable about them is they will find a way to gather more subgroups with amoeboid digestion for the nest election.

The center is the problem in what it's become which is nothing more than slightly right of left, or rather only halfway left. The best thing the GOP can do right now is put as much distance between the left as possible so that when everything comes crashing down, which it will, people will not associate the right with the left. The right needs to be as clear and distinctly opposite right now than ever before. You don't affect change be being like that which you stand against so as to attain power. You've just now become like them. What is the goal? That is the question. You don't get there by alienating people from your party in hopes of attracting others who are not of your party to join your ranks and hope to maintain principles you stand on, It will be watered down to nothing more than another democrat party.

I bought a subscription to Esquire because it was 2 years for $5.99. It is a decent rag but it is easily the most liberal periodical being published today.

Yeah, the Republican Party is demented because it doesn't promise to steal from one part of society to give all free f*cking sh!t to the scumbag filth (e.g. "OBAMAPHONE, MUDDA F*CKKA!!!") whose votes are up for sale to the highest bidder.

@wolfhound: ? Don't think Tom Tommorrow is liberal? About half his cartoons are about Obama being too moderate?

I find this writer to be shallow and pedantic. Honestly there is quite a bit of fail in this story but if readers can't see it I won't waste my time pointing it out. Thanks for the read, now I need to pray to God to give me and extra three minutes of life to make up for what I just lost.
