Heard Coach Hud on a local radio show on Monday am. They were talking about the strength in the Sunbelt in the way that everyone was pretty darn good.

He then said "in the SEC you've got Bama, LSU, Florida and then everyone else". I was on highway 90 and had to be careful to not wreck while I was laughing so hard.

Bama, LSU, Florida and "everone else"??? Um Coach Hud, we've got #4, 5, 6, 7, 8 AND 9 in the BCS. Where is the highest rated Sunbelt team?

Not a dig at all on ULL ... I wish them well. I just found his comment laughable.

In their pea sized heads they really think that, and some even think they could compete in the SEC on a week in and week out basis.

I was living in Lafayette in 1985 when USL lost to Florida 45-0. The USL coach, Sam Robinson, after the game commented something to the effect, "that except for a few long touchdown plays USL played the Gators pretty even."

I almost died laughing at that.

BTW - USL has never beaten an SEC team. UL at Monroe, La. Tech and even Southeastern have pulled that off.

Well that's certainly what ULL, ULM and LaTech have done this year.

True, but USL did defeat A&M, a current SEC member, some years ago.

I don't understand what's going on here. When names 3 teams and then says everybody else, he is saying those are the 3 best teams. Nothing in that comment was an insult of the sec or implied that ull could compete in it. Sounds like you have your panties in a wad sensitive sally

Two things:

A) He's not going to ball wash every team in the SEC, he mentioned the three that are relevant to his fanbase. Last years NC, the in-state SEC team, and the team they just played.

2) He's got to play to his audience. I don't have a problem with his comments, because he's trying to breathe life into what was a dying program before he got there. He's got to do everything he can to build excitement. If pumping up his conference competition is part of that, so be it.

That's the key phrase. I dont doubt they can beat an SEC team any given Saturday. It's doing it every week that is the hard part.

I think LSU fans that think ULL/LaTech/ULM fans are like this are even worse.

This guy is the head coach at ULL. What do you expect him to say??

Also, historically, there is more parity in the Sun Belt than their is in the SEC. He is right about that statement.

Dude had a chance to beat the #5 team in the country and decided to sit on the ball and "play for overtime" instead. Now he's going to talk shite?

Are you fricking retarded? Week in week out basis means they would play 8 conference games...not one a year. Does an SEC team get up for a sunbelt team? Hell no! They have a minimum of 8 games that are much more important.

Everybody beats Arky. Staying in the game but never winning is not really competing.

Well, maybe...

If the SEC is "LSU, Florida, Alabama, then everyone else", I say with great confidence that our "everyone else" is still way better than the best CUSA has to offer.

And I don't agree with the original statement anyways...the SEC currently is LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and everyone else.....

Hud was the OC at Miss St 2 years ago.....he's pretty knowledgable about the SEC.

I don't think he was that far off. If you look at the last 10 years, Bama, LSU, and FLorida have been the teams that are the most consistently good. You will have a good year here and there by some of the others, but as far as consistent top 10, those 3 have carried the torch.

That said, yes this year, there is a lot more parity in the league because LSU and Bama took a slight step back from the lost talent from 2011 and UGA, SCar, and Florida got much better, and the addition of aTm has increased the strength of the SEC this year.

To be fair, Florida is extremely lucky to win that game Sat against ULL. Probably one of the worst last second beats I have seen.
