Any OB bird dog owners ever use these areas? Whats the rules if so? Can you bring pen raise quail, live ammo, permit required?

Also, quail season is open at sandy hollow now, correct? edit: opens Saturday looks like

Never used them but familiar with them. They are set up at 100 acres require a permit from WLF and allow pen raised birds and live ammo almost year round.

You'd have to check the rules from the specific WMA.

I have found 3 different wild coveys there over the years only one during hunting season. I am normally done with the property for the year after Thanksgiving but the birds that live there know how to hind and when found know how to escape. Your chances are extreamly slim of finding birds. I use it more to get the dogs in shape. The south end of the property opens the Monday after labor day (no hunting) and has a nice course to walk.

All my flight condition quail sources have dried up. I think there might be a place around Breaux Bridge.

Anyone getting on wild quail anywhere? Just moved to Barksdale AFB (Bossier City) from Minot AFB North Dakota and everyone I ask about the area is all doom/gloom. Not sure how many seasons I'll get here before the USAF moves me again (possibly my only season here) so would appreciate a hint on where I might get on some upland birds before I have to resort to pen-raised preservation hunts. My Vizsla and I need some work!! We're really missing the pheasants/grouse/huns up north right now.

Havn't hunted woodcock yet. Anyone care to get an organized hunt together? Being new to the area and possibly not here for long, could stand to follow someone who knows their way around N LA. Might be some scotch involved!
