I know it's been covered on here before, but Bowls are a waaayy outdated notion. Unless you are in the BCSCG then you are basically playing an end of the year exhibition game. An "honorable mention" "thanks for playing" trophy. I have loved bowl games in the past but, these days the multiple great teams need a fair way of deciding a champion.

I know they are about to put a 4-team playoff soon, but the polls, bowls and talking heads are too controlling and not the field of play. Start from the ground up with a true playoff system. It can be done cause I-AA, II, and III do it AND finish weeks before all the Bowl games even start.

My rant for the day. Please return to you regularly scheduled Monday.

Disagree.

I like that the regular season really counts.

I guarantee that deep down, in non-public moments, the AD's of the schools that play in lower-level bowls would just as soon have their teams not play. The exposure is great, but bowls can be a financial nightmare for schools with borderline athletic budgets to begin with. By the time you travel, stay in a hotel, pay for meals for everyone, house a band and feed them, etc., the bowls are a money drain.

I recall numbers showing that LSU basically broke even in the couple of Chick Fil-A bowls in which they played and maybe made a nominal amount for playing in the Cotton Bowl.

A MAC team playing in a bowl game in a remote location will lose money.

I think 8 is probably the max that I would want to see.

Look at #1-5 now vs. #11-15 ... huge difference, imo.

"Eight is Enough" ?

I disagree but for teams like LSU that have Natty or bust expectations, it creates a serious letdown if they have that second loss.

What are the bowls hurting? Seriously. I don't get why people want to do away with them. They don't cause any harm.

Completely disagree.

Teams are playing for the chance at a cool trip at the end of the season where all their friends and family can watch them on national tv.

It's one of the reasons college football is the best thing on the planet.

I don't mind the bowl games what I do hate is the conference affilations! It would be nice to be able to go to any bowl yoand play different teams in different venues.

Yes...because Albuquerque, Boise, Shreveport, Detroit, Charlotte, El Paso, and Birmingham are such wonderful tourist destinations in late December...

I agree whole-heartedly. CFB is the only sport that follows up an exciting regular season with meaningless exhibition games. Some occurring over a month after the last time the teams played. I love CFB, but I actually lose interest after the regular season. Sorry, just can't get excited to watch a 10-2 team play a 9-3 team with virtually nothing "on the line" other than some goofy trophy.

The players get a playstation and a nice trip to Disney Land. So what? I'm sure they would much rather get to got a playoff and battle it out like the guys they see playing on Sundays do. If not, then I'd question just how much of a competitor they are. An 8 to 16 team playoff would be great!

I said this a while back when this discussion came up: I remember how big a deal it was for LSU to play in the Independence Bowl after so many years of futility. Of course, right now that would be a serious disappointment for LSU to play in that, but for these other schools who won't ever play on the big stage, it means something to them. These kids eat it up. We know they don't mean anything, but who cares? Let them play.

Sorry. You think Bowls are about football. But the fact is, they are about economics. Cities and regions that host them are doing so not for the love of football alone, but for the money the games generate for their communities. Bowls will be around as long as people will buy tickets, travel to distant places, eat in restaurants, ride taxis, rent cars, drink in bars, stay in hotels, spend $$$.
