I've been reading a few books recommended on this board and others ...and I would like to know what kind of investing strategy that people here use ...such as long term vs short term ...how diversified ...castle in the air vs firm foundation..

Over the long run I would say buy and hold and dollar cost averaging.

real estate.
I am leaning basically towards mostly real estate going forward for many reasons. I'll still play the stock and commodity markets but not like I used to.

Meh, I'm out of the game now. I used to work for one of the big banks in London. Suddenly, I lost a few bucks and everyone flipped out. I think I'm just gonna quit the rat race and become the AU football coach, clearly they'll hire anybody.

Currently holding 70-30 stocks to bonds with a 40 year time horizon. Large cap stocks outweighing small cap because of the risk factor. Holding bonds just for a fixed income strategy. I've got time on my side, so I can be a bit more aggressive with my strategy... once I get a little older, I'll put more money into bonds than stocks.

Roughly half cash and half interests in oil and gas properties Paid off virtually all debt along the way, including house note and wife's student loans (heresy, I know) It's my risk mitigation strategy for inflation/deflation/income and has given me great peace of mind.

i did the same back in february(everything paid off)....for the exact reasons we are seeing now. The douchebag in chief being relelected by economic morons for one. more job loss/layoffs we are seeing now equals more homes lost eventually among other things. I am prepared for the worst and expected this. I have been through enough rough times so I am experienced.
