dinner:
shapley's, best steak in town
local 463, in madison, my favorite food in town not steak
parlor market, downtown, great apps and solid entrees
walker's, sister restaurant to local 463, in the fondren area

I dig this dinner list.

Gotta disagree on Keifer's. I'm just not impressed, but I want to be because everyone here falls all over themselves to tell me how much they like it. I think maybe I compare it to the greek/lebanese gyros I get in Baton Rouge and they just don't measure up.

Keifer's is mediocre for me. Decent atmosphere...food is average. And, I've been a number of times. I can get much, much better Mediteranian food in Mecca.

If you are working downtown, check out Steve's for lunch. There is an uptown and downtown location, but I go to the downtown location pretty much every day. Steve has a short menu and daily specials that aren't your average lunch options. Today he did a loaded baked potato pizza that was fantastic.

I'm just addicted to their feta dressing. It is unlike most Mediterranean places so kinda comparing apples and oranges. Mezza is probably the best true Mediterranean food around here.

Hah, our JAN office is around the corner from Steve's. Is he still running his second place in whatever that building is across from the planetarium? Used to see him run his bike between the two places during the lunch madhouse.

Yes, that is the one I go to and he does have a bike he rides back and forth between that one and the other. Hell, they are only like two blocks apart.

Excellent. Their soft shell crab special is good when they have it. The fried green tomato Napoleon is money too. I usually go with the dr pepper braised short rib although my wife goes with the redfish. Their BBQ oyster stuffed carpetbagger filet special is great too. The white chocolate bread pudding served with ice cream is fantastic as well. Not to mention they have timber beast on draft. You've got me hungry now

The Travel Channel show I watched recently recommended the Pig Ear Sandwich @ The Big Apple Inn on North Farish St.

My husband always jokes about getting the pig ear sandwich from there. It's a sketchy place to go

I tricked my father in law into trying it. I told humor tasted like bacon which it does not. Their hot smokes are great. Also you can bring your own beer in there. It is pretty sketchy though.

Shaley's steak house in Ridgeland.

I haven't been to Tico's, so I can't compare.

I met Matthew McConnauhey at Shapley's, so it would get the edge anyway. LOL

I've been. It's similar to the ones in New Orleans.

My favorite places in Jackson were Keifers, Julep, Amerigo, and Char but it's been a few years since I've been anywhere in Jackson.

I was there a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. Pretty legit setup. Pretty much the same atmosphere as the one in BR
