Like any relatively new situation there is money to be made by those who view the situation as an opportunity. I'm certain opportunities still exist for those who choose to find them.
I think there is still huge money to be made in energy and in healthcare informations/Electronic Medical Records to name a few.

Most start ups fail because they are under capitalized. Given current uncertainties with regards to cost of regulatory compliance, it is difficult to forecast the capital requirements for a new business. I would be very cautious trying to start a business with significant capital requirements. Fortunately, I am a CPA, and my business depends on my personal services rather than capital investments.

3- My wife is Hispanic and we're gonna suck the shite out of whatever dollas Benbama can set aside for us...

Why not use it though? I'll be able to get my company started in the next year or two and I guarantee itll be under my wifes name because of all the tax breaks we would get. In your case if your company would be owned by a woman AND minority, thats big money there.

I started my current business in 2010. I had a business prior to that but it was a victim of the changing economy.
Our current business is doing very well. Highly recommended.

What kind of breaks would be available if the women owned the business? I am fixing to start doing some work for a buddy of mine doing computer maintenance from home? Would I benefit from starting a business in her name while I do the work?

Some cities require a certain % of work to go to small minority or women held businesses. It's not a major plus, but it doesn't hurt. There is absolutly no benefit if you are a white male on the application.

To be certain, we've started two new businesses. One will be for for a very specific application that we are building and the other for any other software development we can land.
She will own the general software dev one.. although the opportunities for set aside work in that industry are very limited.

There are tax breaks, and also certain business loan programs that are set aside for women owned businesses.
