I've never been able to get into Lucero. Don't know why. They just never grabbed me.

That's crazy. Ben is 10x the songwriter that Patterson hood or coley could ever dream of being.

Self titled
Tennessee
That much further west
Nobody's darlings

Pretty excellent albums

I can't get into either, which is weird because I kinda like the genre. Both just seem disjointed to me.

I think Lucero is a better live band than DBT. DBT has better albums, although they haven't had a good one in years.

AA is good, but they need a few more good albums under their belt before they're in the discussion.

DBT is better, you're a tad crazy to think otherwise

DBT... They are original, if not somewhat past it now...

AA... in about the 5 songs I've heard from them, they've given me no reason to listen any further... not terrible, just boring...

Lucero's latest record is garbage, but I liked their first few...

Uncle Tupelo blows 'em all away...

Going to respectively disagree with you on this one, Cooley takes the cake hands down IMO

Isbell was, and still is the better songwriter. Cooley gives it more of that whiskey and cigarettes type of flavor. It all rounds out though

isbell was the best writer of that group by far

I find all their songs without him boring

The way that they all complimented each other is what makes them so damn good. I'm biased though because Isbell comes off as a dick IMO (still damn good though)

Favorite Cooley songs:

Space City

Zip City

Women Without Whiskey

72

Uncle Frank

When The Pin Hits The Shell

Where The Devil Don't Stay

Gravity's Gone

One of these Days

Self-Destructive Zones

A Ghost To Most

Cartoon Gold

They have like 6 albums

Was laughing at the "lets wait and see what they do with their next album" talk

Their newest is the best album that they've recorded

Coincidentally, Jason isbell produced and recorded it

Different strokes and all, but that's crazy talk. I've seen both bands live and there's just no contest on who's better live. Of course, DBT is in the handful of very best live bands on the planet. I don't see how you can go see both those bands and not think DBT is a better live band. But, diff'rent strokes and all.

And while I don't think the last two albums are on the same level of their prime five album stretch, I really like the last two. Especially Go Go Boots, which has a real ragged, lived in feel. It feels like the band just sitting around and riffing off each other. The Big To Do is actually their best chart positioning album, though.

There is usually a song or two on their past couple of albums I like...

I agree that DBT is a better live act than Lucero... Seen 'em both at the old Chelsea's by campus (only common venue) and the level of intensity wasnt even close...

I kinda like Patterson's rambling, but I can see how it could be a turn off for some...

DBT is boring live.

Lucero is one of the best live rock and roll bands touring right now.

I disagree and I've seen both many times.

Funny part is, glossary blows both of them away live.

DBT just comes off cheesy to me in a lot of ways. I feel like they started out strong years ago, and have since packed it in and are going through the motions at this point.

There are better bands in the genre currently, and better songwriters that don't come off as trying too hard
