"this year wasnt expected, but next year we will be in the title game," "JJ and JL will be gone and Mett will be...." and so on and so on.

What happened to the team that everyone on this site said would be better than last years team? Give us your #1 reason why LSU isnt the LSU of last year.
And I fall into the category of thinking that LSU was going to be better this year than last year. Gotta admit, its hard to top what last years team did.

Missing ~20 players certainly can't help.

I honestly thought we would have no problem going 14-0.

Not sure about #1 reason, but its a combination of unlucky injuries, Mett not as good as hype, and loss of TM7.

Mett didnt pan out as expected
TM7 got kicked off the team
More than half of the starting O-Line got injured
Didnt realize how much we would miss Rueben Randle
Drew Alleman has gone from one of the best FG kickers in the SEC to one of the worst

Overall our defense, I would say, is about the same (better Linebacker play, worse secondary play, D-line is the same)

Our Offense is honestly about the same except we don't convert in the redzone and more turnovers\penalties than usual.

Special teams is worse because we dont have tm7 and ron brooks out there gunnin people down not allowing punt returns and Drew alleman isn't making the field goals he should be making. Brad Wing is still Brad Wing.

Mett's a tard that cant comprehend anything besides a two patter reciever route. Bama would shite if we came out shotgun spread 5 wide

I definitely thought we'd go 14-0. Pretty crazy how doom and gloom it is around here, and we're still #5 7-1. Just goes to show how huge the expectations were around the team going into the year.

Give us your #1 reason why LSU isnt the LSU of last year.

1. By far the biggest thing is leadership. Whether it be on the field play, locker room presence, off the field camaraderie, whatever. We miss guys like Taylor, Claiborne, and Mathieu. Our team isn't as close knit as it was last year from an outsider's perspective.

2. Injuries/Suspensions. Injuries are part of the game, but it's tough to lose perhaps your most important offensive player (Faulk) and defensive player (Mathieu). We want to run the ball nonstop, yet our line is patchwork at best. We want to cause turnovers and have big special teams plays, but our top defensive player/returner is off the team.

3. Passing game. I don't want to say Mett, although he certainly has something to do with it, because it's a group effort. Our QBs aren't developed enough, and our coaches aren't confident enough in our QBs to have effective balance.

Give us back Blue, Faulk, and Mathieu, and countless others and then I think it would be a fair comparison. We've just lost way too much

We didn't exactly have great QB Play last year. at least not towards the end of the season. Lee did pretty well early on.

O-line-has been killing us all year. although it has started looking a little better.

Injuries and unjustified optimism in an untested QB. But with all that, we're still in the hunt
