Late model 2011 Tahoe LTZ..

So I'm vehicle shopping and we rolled up to All Star Chevrolet in BR and they have a 2011 Tahoe LTZ with 19K miles for $48K.

Does the Z add that much?

Ross Downing in Hammond has a 2012 Tahoe LT for ~$37K with 11K miles on it. There are a few differences: No sunroof, navigation or power lift gate, but everything else is identical: trim, rims, dvd entertaiment, etc.

I'll probably go with the newer 2012, since a sunroof isn't really needed and all of our phones have navigation.

But really? Older, more miles, but $11K more?

Well let's start here:

LTZ can add things you can't see too: it could have the 6.2L engine. Also: back up camera, power flip and fold 2nd row, retractable running boards, etc. Nav is a big selling point.

I wouldn't buy either one, personally. The new body style comes out next year as a model year 2014 and your resale value is going to plummet. I just bought a 2007 Yukon with 60K miles for half of what that 2011 is going for. If you're looking for something with warranty remaining, don't let that factor too heavily - these things don't break much, except for upper ball joints and brake pads. Maybe split the difference and get an '09 with some more miles on it and save another $10K.

Finally: Don't roll up on dealerships and just look at window prices. Some dealerships are insane. Orr Acura in Shreveport had an '08 z71 Tahoe listed for $36K - KBB dealer price on it was $27K (trade in was around $24k). Go to cars.com and search exactly what you want within a comfortable radius of your house. I found mine 150 miles away. There are a million Tahoes/Yukons for sale, there's no need to get ripped off.

2011 LTZ: $42K
Another 2011 LTZ: $42k

I plan on keeping it a while so resell value isn't a big selling point for me right now..

Well then get the best deal on whichever one you choose. I'll say this on the Nav issue: I hate nav systems and the one that comes in Tahoes is old and crappy and not nearly as useful as my phone, BUT not having it also means you don't have a back-up camera (unless you have one in the mirror) and that SUCKS. I went to a stereo store to see about adding one of those Pioneer in-dash dvd players & a back up camera and it came to $1800, when all I want is the camera.

I can't believe I'm saying this as I have always been a Chevy man but if any vehicle your looking at has the 5.3 l v8 with afm/dod were it drops to 4 cylinder at steady speeds you may want to do your research. Those motors have been having oil burn off issues due to failed piston rings. I recently had this happen on my 2010 silverado crew cab z71 at 40,000 miles. In the process now of doing an oil consumption test which is just a hoop gm has you go through before they start changing things. I'm reading that the only way to fix the oil burn off problems is to replace the pistons and rings which out of warrsnty can be pricy. Many people have said the more you use the afm the worse oil burn off you get.

Sorry if tl;dr but just have been warning everyone of this problem Aperantly it may effect all alum block v8s wih afm dod since 07

Gs....just traded an 08 Sierra with AFM...only reason I traded was the oil consumption issue. I actually took to my mechanic and one of my plugs was missing all of the porcelain. Called dealer and they would not do anything for me...went to Chevy dealer across town and bought a Suburban. Issue is supposed to be corrected in 11 models and newer.

Navy Federal just approved my $ request.

I'll be getting a check in soon that says: Good up to $45,000 so I can walk into any dealership and say: Cash, bitches! Hook me up!

Gotcha. Yeah I'm not sure what ill do just yet as I'm still early in the process. My only problem with trading mine in is I know my value is significantly reduced due to being rearended last year with a lot of repaired damage.

Is there a way to get auction pricing for a vehicle based on the VIN?

A vehicle I'm looking at was purchased at auction in Florida (I guess it was repo'd) and it would be great to know how much they have marked it up over the purchase price.

Alum, NADA clean trade is what most dealerships in the area use as a value to base vehicle pricing off of.

Also, I know the used car sales manager over at Chevy. His name is Donovan. Real nice guy. I'm guessing you were in the Navy. He was in the guard. I'm sure if y'all traded a few stories, he would knock the price down a little.

I know everyone is different, but I have friends who own dealerships and the deals they have offered me haven't been nearly as good as the one I got from being adversarial as hell with a guy I've never met and will probably never see again. When I buy a car I am as selfish as anyone could be - It's me vs. them.

Except they lowballed my wife's Honda Accord EXL below the rough estimate, and there is nothing wrong with the car.

I think I talked to Donavan yesterday. I'm heading over to Ross Downing later today and look at a couple of 2012 LTs. Maybe I can get them in a price reduction war to get my money.

Probably because they know you and think they can get you in at a higher price vs the guy you've never met.

I have a 2007 Silverado with the same 5.3 L AFM that is used in most Tahoes and Suburbans.

110,000 miles and no issues at all. Best vehicle I've ever had by far, and I have no plans of replacing it in the next 5 years.

I feel like this would be a good place to link WillCover's car buying advice thread....

Anyone know where we can find it? (Had a lot of good advice on how to shop around, emailing dealers, etc.)

TIA

(Maybe it wasn't WillCover, but I thought it was....)
