Put bait inside and outside of the trap.

I forgot to add the piglets really hit apple flavored salt blocks well. Mom will keep bringing them back for more.

Fairly nice trap. I like the door mechanism and that it does not shut flush. The angle helps encourage more to push in the trap. once one is caught. A big pig will break those back side welds though. I would consider putting angle iron on all of the edges, or at least driving a T post on each back corner.

Next time you set it up try to put it up against or inside of the trees/cover and on a trail if possible. Cover the floor well with pine straw. Actually try to brush it in a bit. It does actually help.

I would make the trail to the trap a little heavier. Do not touch the trap door or frame with your bare hands. Hogs have beter sniffers than deer.

If you notice all of the corn is getting eaten right up to and just inside the door but not in the trap then doe are eating it.

It is possible this group of hogs has been educated on this style of trap. If so the dominant sow/boar will actually run the others away from the door and you have to take that hog out to succesfully trap them.

If the hogs are just gone, count your blessings but don't worry they will be back. In dry times pigs will have up to a 6 mile radius of habitation supposedly. The one thing they do remember is where free groceries are though.

i really want the trap in the woods more but couldnt get it throught the trees without some help. i plan to move it this weekend.

I trapped 12 in mine last year, best to get a sow, and the youngins will wander aimlessly outside the trap, so when you check it sneak in, I tapped 3 little ones outside the trap on the way in, with 3 sows inside. If you shoot them in the trap, make sure to scoop up all blood and carry somewhere to dump. Hard to do without spreading your scent but necessary. Apparently a few hogs out of the 30 + / - that I have now, remember the trap, they wont touch it this year. And Good Luck! They have been a constant pain in my arse, running the deer out and never showing their faces until nightfall.
