My opinion is that the charges against Mathieu will probably be dropped

The judges here in Baton Rouge are real particular about going into someone's resident without a search warrant. Even though Mathieu gave them permission to enter the door, one important factor comes into play here.

This apartment complex where he lives technically allows you to rent each room whereas the living room area and such are considered the commons area. Unless any of the drugs are found in his bedroom, the judge is going to drop these charges due to no search warrant issued. (Even though he gave permission to enter) The living room/kitchen is not contracted as renting with the landlord but the bedrooms are. So unless you have it on you personally or in your backpack as Bryant apparently did, there is a good chance charges will be dropped against the other individuals.

May sound crazy, but it only takes one technicality to drop charges. Personally I hope the charges stick for his own well being. Forget about Mathieu and let's geaux tigers.

Who cares?

He has eliminated any chance of returning to the program, regardless of what happens with the charges.

Good, problem solved, decision made.

He might probably escape prison/charges due to a technicality but not public/media opinion.

This arrest could play a huge role in perception and determine his acceptance back into the team and/or future NFL based decisions.

Until next year when he gets busted with a UV light and a barn full of Maui Wowee.

I wouldn't try to justify shite for this guy. Lets just say I know a little about the laws.

Sounds reasonable, except one bag was found in his dresser. Don't see how that can be seen as a common area...

Charges are the least of his concern. I don't think he has any priors so even a conviction on possession won't give him any jail time... just probation with PTI and a rehab stint (which he should do anyway).

His problem is the arrest will downgrade his NFL opportunities.

OK, on second thought I guess that if the charges are dropped then LSU could readmit him to the football program. Highly doubtful, but it leaves a door open.

And btw, I think that your legal argument is weak.

Once the officers have "probable" cause and "voluntary consent" is granted then no search warrant is required.

Well, the fact that his bond was only set at $500 seems indicative that he is not looking at anything ultra serious from a legal standpoint.

But that type of analysis wholly misses the point. The fact that he was hanging around with people that had a scale and grinder and multiple bags of weed pretty much says that all the stuff about rehabilitation either is all for show or it just isn't taking. Isn't one of the major things you should do in any kind of anti addiction/substance use situation is stay away from people doing it?

Exactly. One of the first things you are asked (mandated) to do in a 12 step program is find a "sponsor" (someone who has been through the program and a level-headed sounding board) and change the group of people that you associate with. It doesn't appear he did either. Sad, but as was said above, keep him far away from the team.
