2007 Saints vs. Carolina had a 10+ minute drive

And it ended in a blocked field goal

And no Drew Brees TDs in that game either.

longest drive in NFL history:
quote:

The Boston Redskins had a 14:03 drive during the third game of the 1935 season against the Chicago Bears. Sammy Baugh ran for 56 yards and passed for 49, as the 'skins scored on their 23rd play of the drive.

That's from the way way way back machine there.

Sammy Baugh did not play in the NFL until 1937

the Saints had a REALLY long one probably like 5 or 6 years back. they didn't score on it, IIRC...a blocked field goal. i remember laughing my arse off as it was happening.

ETA: found it...Saints vs Panthers, Oct 7, 2006 -- 24 plays, 93 yards, 10:22 off the clock, and culminating in a blocked 20-yard FG.

This is weird and sort of on-topic...overall time of possession.

2009 - Colts 27 vs. Miami 23

Miami time of possession - 45 minutes.
Colts time of possession - 14 minutes, 53 seconds.

Colts had the ball for 5 1/2 minutes in the second half and the game was tied 13-13 at halftime.

Miami converted 15 of 21 third-down chances.
Miami ran 84 plays to Indianapolis' 35, and didn't turn the ball over until the game's final play.

Giants in 3rd quarter of super bowl 25 vs bills

I remember Mark Ingram Sr. making a catch on a third down to keep the drive alive. He wasn't going to be denied. He broke a bunch of tackles and lunged past the first marker with a defender hanging on to his leg.

was that from a Monday Night game?

I think Dallas Clark scored on the first play from scrimmage.

Yep and yep.

Thought it was funny to sort of debunk the "dominating time of possession creed as the key to winning games" with long drives. Miami had long arse drives that resulted in FGs.

But then again, if you have Manning...Time of possession is irrelevant.

Cowboys had a drive over 10 minutes against the panthers last week. Then the panthers had a long one after that

LSU had a 97 yard, 21 play drive vs South Carolina in 2003

ETA: Removed the time. Discrepancy between what is in the boxscore vs the recap. Either way, I remember watching that drive and it felt like the longest I have ever seen

Houston Oilers (maybe Tennis Oilers) had a 13 1/2 minute 21 play drive vs Dallas on Thanksgiving 1997...I was there.

Last weekend the Cowboys/Panthers game both teams only had the ball once in the first quarter. One of them could easily have been over 10.

The saints use to have quite a few 8+ minute drives when Hebert was QB
