| Extending Bar Closing Time & Sunday Bar Opening Back On Agenda Tonight In BR (Posted on 10/24/12 at 6:40 am)
Metro council meeting is set for tonight, with both issues regarding bar closing times and days on the agenda. At issue is potentially extending closing times and suspension of alcohol sales in the parish to 4AM ... Also, allowing bars to open without food sales requirements on Sundays is expected to be voted on as well .. Here's hoping BR joins the 21st Century ..

any hope of this? Last time this went through (to my memory) it was a hell fire and brimstone fiasco.

2 more hours out after a game is exactly what I need.

So I still won't be able to buy beer from 4AM-11AM Sunday morning if this happens?

Yeah .. Pretty much .. But there's actually some softening in the religious right's stance on this ... Both getting through is a long shot .. But I think 4AM has a chance ..

I thought it was tacked on as an amendment to the sales so if one fails they both do

I thought they could be voted on separately .. If not, yeah, there's very little chance both get through as a package ..

I'd rather have drink specials de-regulated than another 2 hours at the bar. Then again, I'm 28 and don't care about either. Once again: Shreveport has it figured out. Casinos can serve 24/7 and bars downtown can stay open til 6 a.m. to "compete" with casinos.

If we're to believe Jack, the only place there's going to be to drink at 4 am is the casino because bars won't be able to afford the $40,000 fee to stay open.

Okay, since there is a lot of confusion and i usually start this thread. There are two DIFFERENT proposals. One is for the extended hours and its by bones Addison. It's a $40,000 fee to be open till 4am. The only people that it will probably benefit art the casinos, since all the other bar owners I have spoken too say it would NOT benefit them enough to spend that kind of money, for two extra hours. The original and most widely confused proposal is from Allison Gary. She has proposed allowing the sale of alcohol before 11AM and to remove the sales restriction that says good must consist of 51% of sales on a Sunday. The extended hours has nothing to do with this one. There was so much confusion about this that metro council members didn't know what they were voting against, and it SHOULD have passed two weeks ago. At least one member came back and admitted they would have voted yes had they known what measure they were voting on.

yeah .. i just went back and read up on it again myself .. it is two separate proposals .. Alison Gary's proposal is the Sunday alcohol sales proposal and Addison's is the extended hours permit for bars ..

the 4AM closing doesn't affect me one way or the other .. but i don't agree with the police chief on the mass increase in crime and the taxing of his force on the extended hours issues .. if people want to drink until 4AM, let them .. it is not like bars are packed at 2AM monday thru thursday here anyway .. weekends ? sure .. but the police department will just have to wait an additional two hours to park the cruisers in an industrial park to take naps .. wah wah .. the sunday bar issue is more my cup of tea because i would love the option to go to a place like the bulldog to watch sunday NFL games and things like that ..

Metro council is retarded and bones GOT PAID. He isn't running for re-election and pinnacle was screaming that they need the extra two hours to "compete" with the region, as a gambling destination.

I'm guessing they're mainly worried about Tiger Land being open that long. But by adding that 40,000 that only the casinos can afford, well all you've done is create a mad rush to late night there the sunday restrictions are ancient and need to go regardless though
