We all know this guy was going to be solid this year, but hes been more than solid in every game this year. This thread is to give Minter a little appreciation!

And also, where does everyone project him to be in the NFL draft if he does intend to declare?

He's been more productive than K Shep, just not the same vocal leader. Selfishly, I hope the NFL isn't high on him because I would love to see him back next year

If Teo is in the Heisman talk, Minters name should be thrown around in it too. His #'s are absolutely ridiculous.

Ill probably get a lot of hate for this, but I do see him declaring for the draft. Hes a 6'0 MLB. The MLB position is a dying breed in the NFL because of how the game has evolved into a pass 1st league. You have to have a guy that can run sideline to sideline as fast as a WR. Ray Lewis has even said that. I think hes stock is as high as it will ever be right now. I see him being a 3rd rounder.

I hope im wrong though. Absolutely love the kid.

He's more of a lead by example kind of guy, still very effective. Everybody knew he would be great against the run, but what's really impressive is ability to play the perimeter and against the pass. He could go to the draft after this year and be at least a 3rd round pick, but if he comes back for his senior year he's draft stock could shoot up to the 1st round.

Id love to have the kid back just as much as everyone else, but rarely do teams take a 6'0 runstopping MLB in the 1st round.

Solid point, but the majority of the great pro LB's are around 6'0 tall. Plus Minter has great speed for his size, allowing him to hit the perimeter quickly, which draft scouts saw him do well against one of the most elusive qb's in the country.

Funny you mentioned Ray Lewis. Some draft "experts" have the Ravens drafting Minter in the 1st round of 2014. I agree that this year he would probably be a 3rd round pick, but If he keeps progressing like he's done the last two years, it's likely to believe he will go in the 1st round. It helps that he's getting exposure early on in his junior year

Totally agree. But, with the exception of Ray Lewis and London Fletcher, what other great LBers that are playing today are 6'0 or below? Now a days, the ones that are shorter with great speed become that 3-4 hybrid DE/LB, like Clay Mathews and Elvis Dumerville. I dont think Minter has Mathews type speed or Dumervilles bull rush. And Minters instincts just scream MLB. Id love for the kid to stay because i truly believe he is the heart and soul of this defense, but I just see him being graded as a 2nd-3rd rounder after this season and booking it to the pros. And if he does come back, I dont see him getting drafted earlier than the 2nd round. He might be a household name if he comes back, but hes still a 6'0 hole clogging MLB with average speed compared to the 6'3 240 LBs with legit low 4.5 speed that have long arms and can cover like a safety.

Anyone knows what Minters 40 is??

Minter is a beast. I don't know where he projects, but selfishly I also hope to see him return. As far a the vocal leader part goes, I don't know who is the the vocal leader for the D, but whoever it is (big Sam maybe?) they're doing a helluva job. Wouldn't trade our D so far this year for anyone's. not even the great lil Nicky's. hope they can stay healthy and keep churning out W's

What? Mills was maybe 5'10. Just trying to say that height isn't the main indication of a players ability at the next level.

Yeah. They do.

Ozzie Newsome has stated that he's searching for a successor for Ray Lewis. Kevin Minter is a very talented linebacker out of LSU, so maybe Newsome will consider him.

Lewis and Fletcher are the main two. Everybody knows that Lewis is easily the best LB during his career. Fletcher is easily the second best.

Willis, Bowman, Tulloch, Timmons, Jackson, Posluszny are all between 5'11-6'1.

To be fair though, that mock draft website has Geno Smith going #4 overall this year to the Chiefs and they have Tyler Bray going #4 overall next year to the Rams saying Sam Bradford only has a year left to prove his worth

And that site is going on hopes he stays this year. So many things can happen from now til then. There is a LB out there that none of us have heard us that will be a 1st rounder in 2014.

From the Forde Yard Dash. Apparently the national guys are taking notice too...
quote:

You cannot question Te’o’s impact on a great defense – he’s averaging nearly 10 tackles per game and has four interceptions, which ties him for sixth nationally in picks. But you still can wonder whether he’s even the best linebacker in America. What about tackling machine Kevin Minter (10) of LSU? He had 20 tackles against Florida, then came back with a dozen more against Texas A&M, including a sack and an interception.

True. But that's not the only site estimating him to be 2014 1st rounder.

Yeah, but the chances of him staying are pretty good.

Totally agree about Fletcher and Lewis, but they were both drafted 15 years ago when you had RBs like Jerome Bettis getting 30 carries a game.

Patrick Willis- 6'1, 240. 4.37 40. Pick #11

Bowman- 6'1, 242, 4.72 40. Pick #91

Tulloch- 5'11 240. 4.8 40. Pick #116

Timmons- 6'1 240. 4.6 40. Pick #15

Jackson- 6'1 240. 4.72 40. Pick #34

Posluszny- 6'1 240. 4.63 40. Pick #34

All of these are great players no doubt, but only Timmons and Willis were 1st rounders. And Timmons is a 3-4 OLB for the Steelers. Minter is a true MLB. Not sure of his 40, but I doubt its below a 4.65.

Im not saying that Minter isnt a good football, because hes a hell of a player. But i dont see him being a 1st rounder. Look at the past 1st round LBs from late. All are 6'2 or taller 240 + and can move like a deer. Vonn Miller, Kueckley, Hightower, Melvin Ingram, Rolando McClain, etc.

His combine height and 40 time will the biggest factor in Minters stock moving up.

Says who? Nobody on this board knows if he will stay or go. Like I said, only reason I think he goes is because he is already going to be graded as a 2nd-3rd rounder this year, and his stock is most likely as high as it gets. Traditionally, very few 6'0 run stopping MLBs go in the 1st.
