Agree/Disagree on Tigers top four issues on offense

While I'm no fan of Trevor Matich, he pretty much summed up our issues in a nutshell.
LSU Issues
1)An offensive line riddled with injuries
2)WR's that don't create a lot of separation, and don't hold on to the ball when they do
3)Unusually high number of penalties
4)A QB that progressing much slower than anticipated, partly as a result of the first three issues.
Problem is, only one of these (3) is easily correctable. I know, it doesn't take a genius to figure this out, but I personally would add a lack of play calling diversity to the list as well.

I would agree and add the missing yet most important
5) Predictable game plan with no coaching adjustments

Such great, novel insight. Why has no one on here addressed this?!

I don't see #1 as being that big of an issue. What I mean is that the patched-up O-line has done a pretty good job of protecting him (especially when you consider his mobility issues).
He's been having plenty of time to throw recently. The other issues and the play call routes are bigger issues as far as I can see.

I would have never have noticed LSU problems without you writing them. Thank you for your insight.

Agree - hold on to the ball and all else is fine.

Hurt us in Florida, I thought they played good for USCe and aTm.

3)Unusually high number of penalties
We led the nation in 07 and that worked out. The stupid penalties like ER1s late hit need to stop.

#1 is no longer an issue because we run 'max protect' on nearly every passing play, sending out only one or two wr's on routes and keeping the TE and backs in to block. That's why Mett has had so many throwaways, cause if that one person isn't open he dosn't have any other options.

I don't agree. When we run different routes we are open. Repetitive routes are not hard to cover.

I agree with that list 100%.

What if we are shut out against Alabama?
Does Miles continue to support his offense scheme over hiring a OC?
We are only inferior to the best by the offensive product we put on the field.
Every college has a short time with their players, only others are a lot more effective with that time.

OL better now than it has been since Faulk's departure.
WR's are all slot receivers, and we don't run slot routes outside of quick slants, which brings me to a bigger problem.
Mett is not very accurate. When perusing the stat lines around the country and seeing 21 of 25, 17 of 27, and even much better, I truly don't think we could play pitch and catch at these percentages if you took the defense off the field.
I think most felt Mett had the arm to make all the throws, but he lacks consistent accuracy. So much so, that I have to question what else does he bring to the table. He's less mobile than Jarrett Lee, and his heighth has not helped in reducing batted passes, if anything we've seen them batted at a record pace.
The staff isn't being caught off guard here, IMO. And this is probably one reason we see a kindergarten passing game. When Mett threw well beyond the LOS Saturday, I think it speaks volumes about his overall awareness. That mistake alone can happen to anybody, and does, but in combination with all that we have witnessed, and giving the staff a little credit, it's not very hard to connect the dots.
I truly thought bringing Bolden into the fold was an act of kindness and the addition of an arm to camp, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Miles' offensive staffs develop QB's much in the same way he handles TO's. It's hap-hazard to say the least. We just generally look uncoordinated on offense most of the time.
I think everyone is left wondering who's in charge, and if they're not, then that person is incompetent. Given that this has been the case now for 5 seasons, with multiple QB's, and some significant staff changes, it definitely leads one to believe it comes from the top.
In conclusion, I wouldn't even begin to argue about any particular style of offense. The present one has been quite effective, obviously. I guess it just depends on what your expectation level is. I believe LSU players are every bit as talented as any team in the nation, but I also feel they are at more risk to a lack of preparation when meeting opportunities.

In this order:
1. Offensive Coaching/System (or lack thereof)
2. Offensive Line Injuries / Depth
3. QB
4. Lack of talent at WR

Our coach fricking blows on the offensive side of the ball. ANy other conclusion is nonsense.
