Any JUCO DTs out there?

If we miss on Gilmore, Manning, Bain, etc., what JUCO's can we get late in the game this year, or next?

There are 2 major JC kids this year in Toby Johnson and Marquel Combs. We're way late on Johnson and Combs has some qualifying issues but we have been in contact with him.

The thing that I don't understand is why we didn't press harder for Tobi Johnson. Our DT depth has gotten worse, and he could have come here and started for 2 years before going pro.

I agree we should've at least tried to get in on him(and may have and been turned away) but the DT class has been pretty much locked up in the staff's minds all year. The Gilmore questions have recently become more frequent. I don't think we necessarily need a JC DT with Johnson, Ferguson and Logan(assuming he returns) coming back but it wouldn't hurt. Never know if Thomas or M Johnson are gonna pan out.

Hey chRxis, your comment about Bain makes it sound like you have a source inside the program. Is that so, or are you just speculating? Also, do you think the staff shuts it down with one more DT, or are they pushing for a couple more?

I don't think Bennie comes back. If he gets anywhere in the 1-3 round draft grade he will be gone. That means that next year we have Freak and Ego, with three backups who have never seen the field. And in 2014 (if Ego and Freak leave) we will be down to three scholarship DT's on the roster. That would make a lot riding on the development of Lawson (assuming he stays on the defensive side of the ball).

from my discussions with my source, i get the feeling if they get Gilmore, they shut it down…. he says Bain is already ours, they are just holding off for Gilmore, and if he doesn't come here "we'll just take Bain since he's ours anyway"…. verbatim…

You should probably not post things like this IMO. What if he reads this board and feels we are trying to "play him" and what we thought would happen, blows up in our face. I may be tripping but these are just my thoughts and how I would take it if I was Bain.

they aren't "stringing him along", they are actively recruiting him… however, the truth remains that Gilmore is a little higher on the board, at the moment… i'm sure he knows that...

LSU would take BOTH Gilmore and Bain.
They'd take Williams too if he comes around.
There's room for all 3. Unless we're converting to spread (NEVER) Skinner is Arky bound. Willis would be a nice get, but not urgent. Class 2014 has beaucoup dbacks, safeties who could play as frosh. RSJ will end up at aTm. That leaves 1 schollie left for Mr. Beckwith.
