Brees on Pace to Break His Own Singe-Season Passing Record (UPDATED)

6 games: 2097 yards

Avg. 349.5/game

Pace: 5,592 yards (record: 5,476)

However, at this point last year he threw for 2152 yards.

The passing is damn near identical, it's the rushing that has dropped off substantially. The INT's are slightly up at this point too, but he's passing WAY more than last year.

What do you guys think?

He's been having a shitload of pass attempts this year. Would be incredible if he broke his own record en route to getting us back to the playoffs

He just might have to.

If Colston and Henderson maintain the level they demonstrated against the Chargers...and the high pass attempts continue, I think we might see him stay on this pace..

I think the INT's will drop too as he becomes more efficient.

Would this be enough for MVP? Coachless Saints make a record playoff run after 0-4 start AND Brees breaks his own passing record...

Only one in the past two games, so it looks like he already has gotten that under control.

Just doing the math if he attempts as many passes as last year(or a little more than last year), he needs to complete about 70.7% of his remaining passes to be the most accurate passer in NFL history.

300/424=70.7% in 11 games
439/660=66.5% on the season
4052/6139=66.01% for his career.

at his current Y/C this would give him 5444 yards...

Here's to breaking records!

Of course, this season so far has hurt his pursuit of this record , but he should have it by sometime next season if he can't get it this year.

No, the media has already decided that an 11 win Matt Ryan deserves MVP regardless of stats.

If he does break his own record, it's highly likely he won't be bringing this team back into playoff hunt.

Team needs to find a running game.

The voters would find a way to give it to someone else, possibly someone with an undeserved nickname. But yeah, improving on his record season without a fricking coach, that should be a guarantee.

Another interesting stat I noticed is that Brees did NOT fumble the ball once last year when dropping back to pass. The 2 previous years he fumbled 9 times each.

Hopefully once Vitt takes over, Kro-Kro can focus on the offensive line more to get those guys opening up some holes. Only way we make the playoffs, which is more important than passing records, will be to get the ground game going.

Negative. Peyton is back this year. MVP this year is defined by best QB of the Denver Broncos.

Last year at this time (game 6) Brees threw for 383 yards and lost 20-26 to the BUCS!

As bad as our defense is, I think he'll get close

He really ramped up the yardage at the end of the season. I know he was consistent all year, but the Vikings game comes to mind where he really started to light it up
