It appears that Deion Sanders wasn't satisfied with just recruiting football players to his new high school, as he has brought in pretty much the whole Arlington Grace Prep high school team, including their old head coach, LSU commit Jordan Mickey, new TCU and Trent Johnson commit Karviar Shepherd and 2014 top recruit Emmanuel Mudiay.

Living in the area, I knew the moment that Primetime opened up this high school it wouldn't be long before he was making headlines for the wrong reason and sure enough that's what happened.

I really hope this doesn't mess up with Mickey and qualifying...

Isn't the football team ineligible for using out of district players? Is it going to be any different for the basketball team? Wish Mickey wasn't there.

I've got plenty of questions about this school but I really want to know how many teachers they have. Their enrollment is insane for a first year charter school and they're supposed to be K-12, right?

Yeah the football team was ruled ineligible, and I don't know what they will do with the basketball team. They could rule the coach and those players he brought with them ineligible to participate. I'm pretty sure he will still be able to go to school there if he chooses, he just won't play competitive sports there

In regards to Mickey, it won't affect him coming to LSU, he just won't be able to play basketball his senior season. I really don't understand what they were thinking when doing this. Obviously the coach got a huge stipend and just affected a number of kids' high school lives.

We get a LOT of basketball transfers around here in the D-FW area and most go through because it's impossible to prove the reasoning behind one kid (See Marcus Smart for one name off the top of my head), but when a coach, along with three top-tier recruits all move to a different school, I find it hard to believe they will be able to explain their false reasoning

the school itself is approved by the TEA so it is pretty much legit.

there won't be any concerns over mickey's eligibility at LSU.

Charter schools: putting education dollars into the hands of private organizations.

That's not the issue. It's proving that all of these kids moved from Arlington Grace Prep to this school for academic reasons, not athletic. Like I said, this happens a lot around here and normally with one kid they can't prove anything, but when pretty much a whole team and their coach comes to the school, their case becomes more difficult.

Nothing will happen to Mickey outside of not being able to play basketball this year

yeah just pointing out that the school isn't some complete sham like florida prep. been a few posts over the last few weeks concerning mickey and if he will be eligible to play next year. as long as he takes care of business with academics he'll be fine.

If the kids at that school in Maryland with the 3 USC football commits are eligible for college then anyone at any school should be. I can't speak on Deion's school because I don't know enough about it to comment but these types of schools are popping up everywhere and I expect the NCAA to step in and investigate at some point. Too much room for shenanigans.

@corbettsmithDMN (11:29 a.m.): Mickey surprisingly passes! 3-2, with Wilmer-Hutchins, Irving North Hills and Roosevelt voting yes. Jordan Mickey is a 6-7 senior, committed to LSU.

looks like mickey is good to go, others still up in the air.

Here's a good site for keeping up with that situation. Metroplexhoops.com

Click on "News", then "Barbershop gossip"!

They don't have anything up on it yet but they will.

Here's what they said last week in their 10/05/12 entry after the first meeting.

quote:

The team that will take the lead as this year's "team everyone loves to hate" will be Prime Prep. Last year it was Flower Mound Marcus and the year previous to that it was Dallas Kimball.

Prime Prep had their DEC meeting this past Wednesday and things got very interesting. One media outlet (WFAA) took jabs at the district because this was the first year anyone has ever heard of them actually trying to look into the information provided by the school with transfers. Judging by the facts that were given to me by three sources that were in the room, the DEC wanted to the reject Prime Prep transfers altogether but they couldn't justify a reason for doing so.

So what happens now? They are going to have another DEC meeting next Wednesday morning where Prime Prep will provide more information about the kids that transferred.

I'm sure the next BG entry will "tell all."
