So says Nikki Finke of the popular Hollywood blog, Deadline.com. The film premiered Monday evening at the opening of the New York Film Festival. And for those who doubt her credibility, Finke is probably the most highly respected blogger in the business.

quote:

As Deadline revealed exclusively last week, the Steven Spielberg-directed Lincoln made a surprise World Premiere at the New York Film Festival Monday evening. It has been one of the wild cards in the Oscar conversation. I saw it tonight. I thought Daniel Day-Lewis was a deserving Oscar winner for My Left Foot and There Will Be Blood, and that he probably should have won for In The Name of the Father. But this really is his best performance. He becomes Lincoln, beyond an uncanny physical resemblance.

That's what Stanislavsky method acting is...
and it's fantastic.
DDL is the most indulgent actor I have ever seen...and it is more than amazing

I almost started a thread about this after seeing the trailer. For such a peculiar looking guy, Daniel Day-Lewis is a chameleon. I mean, this is freakin Hawkeye! It is amazing how he is barely recognizable as himself in his movies. Truly an amazing actor.

i actually borrowed the audio book since i travel in my car during the day and i couldnt get enough. ive listened to it twice.

the book is about 60% of actual lincoln stuff, the rest is civil war history and strategy and just the scene of the times. Awesome story!!

Those bastards! How dare Hollywood make a well-crafted film about a topic people are interested in, casting the greatest actor his generation? Those vile fiends! I will turn my phaser to snark to demonstrate my displeasure of well-made films for adults coming out of Hollywood.

Harumph.

AWFUL book that does nothing but plagiarize many other works before his. Truly a terrible terrible read.

I would recommend Manhunt way before Killing Lincoln

Killing kennedy may be just as bad.

Come on, Baloo. I didn't mean it like that. I'm sure it will be a good, well-acted movie, and I will definitely go see it despite my disdain for Lincoln. Everyone knows that there are scenes in there written for Oscars. Probably an extreme pro-government an pro-Lincoln stance.

Killing Lincoln

Yall pass on that one and pick up The Real Lincoln by Thomas Dilorenzo. Get an alternate viewpoint from the deification that Lincoln receives from everyone else. Has a lot of great facts and he makes it very interesting to read.

I'm not saying y'all have to subscribe to the Tyrant Lincoln point of view, just get both sides of the debate so that you can learn as much as you can, and then choose for yourselves

Really? She knows Lincoln. We have hours of video footage of Lincoln she watched to compare?

It may be sub-par compared to Manhunt but I appreciate Bill O'Reilly for writing a book about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln because, with him as the author, more people are going to read it then would usually read a book about the Civil War.

This is what I was thinking too. No doubt DDL puts in a great performance, but how do we actually know he becomes Lincoln? I'm certain no one alive has actually seen Abe Lincoln in person
