re: Princeton Economist: Obama Is Misrepresenting My Study on Romney's Tax Plan

I'm pretty sure that Feldstein is the same guy who once served as an Obama economic advisor. If memory serves me correct, he ended up being critical of the 2009 stimulus package.

Obama seemingly ignored his advice then, and now misrepresents his position paper on it.

Feldstein may need to start opening a can of whoopass...or whatever it is that 72 year old Harvard Economists do to clear their name in response to being dissed.

No, my assumptions are honest. Right now, GDP growth is a very shaky about 1%. To assume a doubling or tripling at a minimum just to pay for the cuts is ridiculous. And not close to supportable.

Educate yourself son. Then come back and talk to me.

You make the same assumptions you claim to be against. You just assume that since revenues went up with the cuts, that they would have gone up even more without them. It's simpleton logic.

You said I was wrong about the Bush tax cuts increasing our tax revenues to record levels and proceeded to prove you wrong. Bush's spending is what fricked us along with multiple other things. It was not the fault of the Bush Tax Cuts. You can also look at how Reagan lowered income taxes across the board also improved our economy.

No. I can link you to at least a dozen articles and analysis that shows the cuts DID NOT pay for themselves.

You will not be able to link me to ONE article that claims the Bush Tax cuts completely paid for themselves. No one, even the GOP or bush administration has ever even made the claim because it is so fricking stupid. Yet a lot of you on here are convinced of it. And that is the problem with this board. All sorts of sound and fury with little intellect or understanding to back it up.

Go ahead and try to find something that says the bush tax cuts completely paid for themselves with increased economic growth.

Go for it.

Your cause and effect analysis is comical at best. Disturbingly ignorant at worst.

Apparently the can of whoopass they (Feldstein and Rosen) opened is making sure their names are added to a website along with 558 other economists cleverly called "Economists for Romney" LINK

Bunch of tough guys right there.

What does this even mean? People kept more of their money through lower marginal tax rates, and revenues increased. Are you saying that they didn't pay for increased spending?

Why don't you link me one or two of the dozen articles that give you your opinion. Try to give me one that explains what pays for itself means.

Washington Times: Bush Tax Cuts boosted federal revenue

Whitehouse.gov

AP revenue hits record high in April

money.cnn.com

"The biggest argument for extending the tax cuts right now is our economy is very weak, and raising taxes during a recession, or the recent weak recovery from the recession, could reverse our economic growth," Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center, noted in one of the group's videos.

Republicans and a small but growing number of Democrats say the cuts should also be extended for high earners, at least temporarily because the economy is too fragile to raise anyone's taxes.

Treasury estimates the costs of making the tax cuts permanent for everyone is $3.7 trillion over 10 years.

Of that, $3 trillion accounts for the cost of extending them for the vast majority of Americans, as the president has proposed. The remaining $700 billion is the cost of extending them permanently for the high-income earners.

Bush's Tax Cuts aren't the problem - it was his tax increases

Hey Miami...you've seemed stressed as of late. What's up? You usually take time to help me with questions I have over here so you're one of my favorite Auburn posters.

Your shtick of trying to come off as some economic genius is also comical. Weren't you supposed to link some grand post about Romney's tax plan for SFP earlier this morning?

And is that the same post you were supposed to make about the comparison between Obama's and Romney's economic policies, except that you just work so hard you had to research and get back to everyone at a later date?

Is that what you are doing right now? Trying to find some article to give you your next point to make? I assume the constant personal attacks are original thoughts.

I guess you are one of those hacks who likes to cut their nose to spite their face. You prolly think it is a great idea to raise taxes on capital gains as well.

That will be all Mr. Predictable.

Geez dude. If I were liberal, I'd tell you to shut the frick up right now. You have been shown a hack in every possible facet that can be measured in this virtual environment we call Tigerdroppings. Facts given that you can't rebut, no facts given by yourself to counter, general party-line hackery defined by your threats to produce facts of significance with links yet none have you produced. That takes talent.

You still appear to be missing the crux of the discussion.

And NONE of those make the claim I asked for.

The claim is that the tax cuts paid for themselves. They did not and everyone knows this.

You guys really do not have the basic understanding necessary here.

You are arguing the tax cuts resulted in record tax revenues. That is simply not true, close to true, or even a claim anyone is making.

Found your problem.

And I am certain that there are posters who are reading this discussion and realize the fallacy of trying to claim the Bush Tax Cuts resulted in record tax receipts, when in fact they resulted in a net decrease to tax receipts.
