2nd and goal after the mingo fumble recovery.

Bootleg to the right with only the fullback flooding to the goal line. The FB gets tackled. This was a one route pass play.

So you call a one route pass play to a seldom used backup FB on a roll out with an immobile QB. It was a total waste of a down. There wasnt even a backside TE crossing in the back of the endzone.

Follow this up with a jump pass after two timeouts with a running back (former HS QB) that has not lined up in the eye formation except for 4th qtr Idaho scrub time.

so -- fricking -- pathetic. that is a microcosm of the offensive coaching staff

Agreed. That was the turning point in the game.

We should have ran on 2nd and 3rd down IMO (and maybe even 4th if we got it to the 1 yard line). We got too cute in that sequence, and it cost us the game. If we score there and go up 10-0, it was game over IMO and we're probably still undefeated.

was it worse that we called it or that our WR couldn't get open with one of one coverage?

There was another receiver in the back of the endzone, but I agree with you. The one time Miles just needed to line up and run three straight times he chickened out.

I've noticed Mett looks a lot more comfortable throwing from the shotgun than from under center.

If it worked, everyone would be saying it was a great call.

On the flip side, best call of the game was the halfback screen pass on 3rd down and 17.

Only to never be seen again this year.

The problem was is that is wasn't even cute. It was a comedy of errors and a total mis-use of the play makers on this team

just to be a devil's advocate, the reason we have to keep RBs and TEs in to block are because our OL sucks donkey balls right now. If we send out anyone else on a route, Mett likely gets killed with the pass rush.

but it didn't. and the double timeout halfback jump pass didn't either.

that's the pitfall of being too cute.

If we run all 3 times and don't score then we would get threads bitching that all Miles did was try to run it when we should've passed.

oh yeah, that was 3rd worst at best. worst:

1) the jump pass
2) 3rd and 10 on the 1st drive... and you run a pick play FOR COPELAND?!!!!!!!!! your 270 lb FB with a knee issue? you want him to convert 3rd and 10?!!!!!!

a backside TE is not needed to sustain a block on a roll out to the opposite side. Jacobs/Clement should have blocked to hold the end, then release on a drag with 2/3 endzone depth. You know, like every other goal line bootleg into the flat on the goal line that has ever been run in the history of tackle football. It is a fast developing play.

So if they try to smash it in there and it doesn't work, fans will bitch. He tries something totally different, fans bitch. Doesn't really matter. If they didn't score, fans bitch. Had the bootleg worked and LSU won, fans would say how great Miles is finally trying something different
