Remember when LSU was stacked

With 3 stud RBs in Kevin Faulk, Rondel Mealey, and Cecil Collins and supposed to run all over the SEC.
1 was kicked off, 1 suffered and injury , and the other semi underperformed...which was impacted by subpar OL.
It's not unlike this year....we are down to playing backups, freshman and sometimes 3rd team guys on the OL.Walter Payton, Jim Brown, and Barry Sanders couldn't run the ball without blocking...so it's not a surprise that LSU is struggling to run the ball...which forces us to pass - which was not our strength to begin with.
Not sure why people seem to have a hard time with this concept????
If - and it us an IF we finish this season with 9 + wins....it will be an excellent coaching job given the losses we've had. If LSU didn't have the players we've lost prior to pre season rankings we never would have been mentioned in the upper tier.
We need to play each game week to week with a sense of real urgency.

bullshite. We don't really have an offensive system or any type of development, so we're just recruiting a hodge podge of offensive players who don't really fit any particular scheme.
We have a spread option QB at WR, 2 slot receivers playing outside (Beckham, Boone) and 1 WR who is physical and has shown great hands not even playing except to block for the RB. (Landry)
We have a QB with stone feet, but we don't run screens or draw plays to give him time. Hell, we don't even run much playaction.

we have no clue what identity to try to establish on offense.

Les Miles has no clue. His players now know it. We are on the verge of watching our beloved program get strangled by this stubborn Big 10 hack.

THIS. I truly believe after 1/9, Saban made our players quit. (actually, he made them realize he is playing for someone who's over his head)
Les had got to be the luckiest coach alive.
He had a #1 draft pick QB talent for his first 2 seasons here who was already developed by FIsher. Then he had another NFL QB sitting right behind him, along with a shitton of talent that Saban pumped in that SR class.
Then he had a fricking NC fall in his lap with 2 losses. Seriously, we lost to UK and Arky that year in a title run. How the frick does that even happen?
Since 08, we've been inconsistent as frick. He hired Chavis, who is the ONLY reason we've stayed on top. But luck and D only takes you so far. Hell, look at our recruiting classes from last year and so far this year. You're lying to yourself if you say it is the same caliber that Saban was bringing in here. Last season was solely on TM7 making us awesome and us playing some pretty fricking terrible SEC teams with backup QBs. Go back and watch the games. Name one game we played awesome wehre we didn't face a backup QB or didn't need TM7 to make a play to change momentum.

Oregon, WVU, first Bama game
You can be disappointed and still honest.

oregon/wvu are out.
bama is the one that can stick.

The coaches have to prepare our guys to play with that sense of real urgency. There lies the problem. Les thinks eating grass will help him call plays.

I'm pretty sure it was close in the Oregon game until TM7 made some fumble recoveries and returns.

WVU,
Lee played lights out and was really the only offensive game that I liked since 2007. Saw playactions and deep passes on 3rd and 1. BUT, WVU did pull close until a Kick return by Claiborne and a TM7 pick 6 swung momentum.
The bama game was interesting. We got damn fricking lucky on that Reid pick. Admit it, most times that 's called a catch. BUT, we also caught them off guard with the option. Still had no fricking offense and mcCarron missed a wide open TD early. (where Saban lost his shite)
They didn't miss on 1/9 and we all knew deep down they were the better team.

Wow, the lack of perspective on this board sometimes is laughable. Les Miles is not a horrible coach. Nobody wins with the regularity that he wins with by "luck". Nobody goes through the SEC undefeated by coaching with "luck". If folks want to argue if he's better than Saban or Richt or any other coaches then have that argument.
The fact is, the major problem with this team right now, is the offensive line. We had two freshmen playing on that line in the second half of that game against Florida and we STILL had a chance to win it. Until we get this offensive line situation straightened out, it is what it is. We're going to struggle on offense. But lets not pretend that this offense, when everyone's healthy, can't get it done. Has it been "one-dimensional"? Yes. Could we use more balance? Yes. But when everything's right, it's still very effective. However, in order to USE this type of offense, you MUST have a VERY GOOD offensive line..........................................which we do not at this point in time.
I'm hoping these guys can get healthy and still salvage this season. But, obviously it isn't looking good at this point. This coming Saturday will tell us a lot about this team. A win gets us back on track. A loss takes us out of contention for the SEC championship essentially. This current team has not faced a season where they have nothing to play for. It would be interesting to see how they react. Will they just fold up camp and tank the rest of the season, or rally around one another and finish strong? Only time will tell...........................................................

I don't know what Faulk's stats were in his Senior season.... I do recall that he came back and we needed him in a BIG way.... compared to the PRE SEASON HYPE --- it was a let down as I recall. Indivdually, he was an awesome RB, but overall the team underperformed and his production was lower than anticipated... but it was a long time ago and I did not look up stats... just witnessed it at the time and recall the pre-season "3 headed monster" hype for our RBs and then not having that come to fruition for a multitude of reasons .... thus a comparison to this season and this team.
Hype >>> actual --- given injuries, dismissals, etc.
That's all.

YES! The good old Dinardo Days. IMO LSU football was more fun in those days. Expectations were not so high..you never knew what LSU team was going to show up...might beat #1 Florida today and drop a pancake game the next week....but we were happy!

I was in NO WAY suggeting that the Dinardo Days were better.
Simply making a comparison of another time when Hype exceeded actual results and how dismissals, injuries, etc. influence the outcome.
