Generally speaking, what do you think a reasonable hunters to acres ratio is for deer-still hunt?

I don't think 1 man can cover 201 near as good as he can 200.

depends on the property though, how the tract is shaped and the cover type

If this is true, then I break this rule pretty much everytime I hunt!

That explains alot...

200 is a base # a lot of people use. Obviously it depends on the layout.

I've heard a lot of people say 1/100. My old club was 8 on 360. Now all 8 didn't usually hunt at the same time but could without being a safety issue but a deer didn't fart w/o us knowing

We hunt probably no more than 4 at a time on 340 acres. Usually it's just 1-3 people at a time though.. This year I feel like it's gonna be hunted pretty hard though..

Is this for safety or pressure conerns? For safety you only need 100yds between stands and most of not all shots will be on a downward angle so the risk of a stray bullet is next to nothing. For pressure concerns the more acreage between you and the next hunter the better.

With a hunting club 1/100, if it is a club where a lot of folks don't hunt.

If you and some buds are serious hunters and looking to go into some land, 1/200 is a very good ratio. 1/150 will be very comfortable too IMO.

Good topic. As a kid I hunted in a club on 1500 acres with 50 members. Not all hunted at same time and most we had was 35 members or so on opening gun morning.

Was always nice in college to hunt mid week with only 4 or 5 other guys on 1500 acres
